Beginner collector here, sorry for my ignorance, I'm learning, haha. How common is this type of error? I wasn't able to find anything else to reference this to. What type of error exactly is this? Thought I'd post a picture, hope you enjoy it.

Never saw a double struck Ike before. Pretty cool. Small area but still very collectible. It's also a type 1 reverse.

I haven't been able to find one either, I thought it was neat. Thanks for reminding me that it was a type 1, almost forgot there was 2 types!

Actually there are 3 types on Ike's but only 2 type's on the 76 rev. The type 1 is scarcer that the type 2 on the 76 and the P mint type 1 is the scarcer of the two mints P/D A little over 5 times more D's were minted than P's.

Overall, this type of error is relatively common. On Ikes though, it is much more strange. I looked at some auction records and a couple of these sold for around $400 about seven years ago, graded. They weren't bicentennials either. This WILL add value in my opinion and its being a type 1 may be beneficial as well.

Thanks for showing interest in this coin everyone! It seems if you search for a 1976-D Type 1 Double Strike, this thread is the first result on google. It seems this coin is more rare than I thought. I could only find 2 1976-D's with the same type of double strike, but they were both Type 2 (which is more common) and are both up for sale for $2500 & $4800. I have yet to find a Type 1 with the same error and I've been looking for a few months now. I have a question concerning this coin, under further inspection it seems I might have found another error. I'll post a closeup below, the error in question is directly to the left of the lip and under the nose. Could anyone possible provide any more information about this? I've searched for Ike errors and haven't seen one quite like this so I'm unaware of how to classify it.
