Unc examples book price is a fraction of other Ed V11's. Maybe the new king's coins were stashed.

I picked up this 1911-B Trade dollar at the last Numisbid auction. It is graded AU Details cleaning because of the very feint Hairlines on the obverse (I think ). The PCGS image doesn't show the hairlines and you can just see them on my images. Very happy with this coin at a purchase price of $86 AUD and I don't find the cleaning to be at all distracting

A few recent auction purchases: 1927 proof florin (date only issued in proof sets): Queen Anne 1714 farthing - scratched on the reverse but still a very scarce coin: Henry VIII halfgroat, York Mint. Shows initials EL for Archbishop Lee and key mintmark (1531-44). Interesting example of a coin that was struck during the great religious upheaval of the Reformation and Dissolution of the Monasteries. My first Henry VIII coin!

Love the Anne farthing, a great addition even with the scratches. I only have one Henry VIII coin and I too chose a Half Groat, a nice type and a historically significant ruler. Great coins there :)

Nice Trade dollar, trout. That's a type I still need. I agree that the cleaning on that one doesn't bother me all that much, and a fair deal at that price as well. Love the half-groat and Anne 1/4d as well, Rob. Here are a couple more of mine from this past month: 1887 Jubilee Head 3d: 1723-SSC Shilling: (My phone is no good at taking pictures through plastic, so these are NGC's photos):

1703 Vigo crown. I've posted this one before on other CCF forums but this is my latest and best photograph of it.

jgenn - that 1703 Vigo Crown is breathtaking! I had to Windex my computer screen to get the drool off! Jack

1658/7 crown of Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland. I normally prefer to show off my own photographs but I was very pleased with how this one graded and the TrueView photo that was included turned out quite well so I thought I would share it here.

Beautiful coins. You have an amazing collection of rare coins. Thanks for sharing the exquisite pictures. I've never seen a better Cromwell. 1658/7 - UNBELIEVABLE! Where on earth do you find such things? Jack

Well, I found this one under the leaves in my back yard. Seriously, these are not rare. The Vigo and Cromwell are single year types but they have good survivability. Folks back then knew they were unique so many were taken out of circulation. And these examples are not high grades, VF by US standards, Good Fine by UK.
If you are used to finding many copies of nearly any US coin for sale then you may think that desirable world coins are scarce but several examples of these come up for sale on a regular basis. You certainly won't find them in your US LCS, however.

jgenn, Under the leaves in the yard - . I wish! I think you're right about not finding them in a US LCS. Heck, in my LCS I'm lucky to find anything, from anywhere! From your comments I'm encouraged to start looking for issues like yours on ebay. Although my main effort is in US coins, I do collect Crown-sized World Coins. I've not seen anything as striking as the Cromwell or the Vigo. By any standards both of your coins have amazing detail and depth of beauty. Unless you were trying to build a collection for your retirement, I don't think you could ask for more. My oldest is a 1793 Spanish Milled Dollar (I can't count my Maria Theresa re-strike), and it's special because it was the first year for the US Mint, and the 8 Reales was legal tender in the US at the time. I have some pretty cool, large copper, Russian Kopeks from the early 1840's. I'd love to own something from the 16th century. Now that I've seen your two treasures I'll start looking. I am grateful that you took the time to share the photos. Thanks so much. Jack

1723 SSC crown to go with the SSC shilling that Kefiroth posted earlier. This one and the Vigo crown were from the same Heritage Weekly World auction last year. These weekly auctions are a nice alternative to ebay for US collectors of world coins.

jgenn - thank you very kindly for the tip. Thus far, I've been timid about auctions, mostly because my budget is small. Also, thanks for the spectacular photos. Your photography set-up does a great job. I took a quick look at your info and apologize for mentioning the history of my 8 Reales coin. You are surely the teacher, and I, the student. Very best regards, Jack

Another Tower mint shilling of Charles I for me. S.2798 Sharp F6/2 A scarce type (I only know of 12 other examples) where the bust design is also found on coins produced at the Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury mints. An experiment? Or was it planned as a Tower issue, but then they needed dies at the other mints and those were the freshest and to hand? Who knows. But it's a better example than my last!

It's really a BEAUT!! Can you approximate the date (range)? Only 12 others plus yours - WOW! You've peaked my interest and I'm going to try to find out more about this coin. It's way out of my knowledge (and most certainly my budget) zone, but I think I noticed the word "Hebrew" and ":Christo." Is the portrait on the obverse a rendering of Charles I? Beneath the portrait I see the word "Mag." Wouldn't a coin this rare be considered for slabbing? I've got to know more. Thanks for sharing an amazing piece of history. Jack
