The multiple finishes on the proof coin really give it nice depth and detail. Such attention to design details is appreciated considering the coin's relatively small size of 27 mm -- it's the same size and weight as the $20 for $20 coins. With such a small "canvas" designs can often suffer; I think the RCM does a nice job with its "small coin" design execution. After seeing this one in hand, I'm definitely looking forward to the remaining coins in the RCM's "War of 1812 Heroes" collection â€" the Tecumseh coin is up next (November) with the Laura Secord and Charles de Salaberry coins due next year. Do you by any chance have the Grey Cup commemorative, or have you seen it? If yes to either, how would you compare them? Also, while this might seem trite, how would you compare the silver coin to the quarter? I believe it is the same design? The frosting looks great. I dislike the issue price for these, so I may look to the secondary market down the road once we are outside the 2012 calendar year. Report this Post to the Staff

If yes to either, how would you compare them? I do have the Grey Cup dollar and think that it is an attractive, nicely detailed coin with a great overall look. As with the Brock coin, the fields of the Grey Cup coin are filled with inscriptions vs. being flat and open. While this could be a distraction if not designed/executed well, I think the overall design of the Grey Cup dollar works â€" the nicely detailed Cup "pops" from the fields but, admitedly, does have to compete a bit with the large inscriptions that surround it. The Brock coin, on the other hand, benefits from the field inscriptions being relatively small and of a repeating design that becomes more of a "pattern" vs. individual words â€" this enables the portrait of Brock to standout nicely IMO.
