Funny that a lot of you think Morgan dollars look like a guy. I always thought that too. When I started collecting, I didnt even know it was supposed to be lady liberty.

I am the other way- I prefer the Morgans. No objective reason, just what appeals to my eye and emotions. Besides, Linebackers have Character!

She may not be a 10 by today's standards but back in 1877 she was a real looker or she would not have been the model for Mr. Morgan. Beauty may be timeless but it does become dated.

I may have missed overlooked it on this thread, but I do not believe anyone has said anything about the reverse of these coins.... The eagle on the reverse of the Peace is absolutely beautiful! The reverse is what wins it for me... Peace dollars all the way. However, my personal favorite coin in my collections is a Morgan my grandfather gave me... go figure?

'Tis true, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Look at me, a poor believer in the Barber designs. A nice set of ANY denomination and type makes a dealer say "WOW! To be truthful, I like neither dollar. Not to hunt down at any rate.
Be it Peace or be it Morgan, COLLECT AND ENJOY!

Funny, I like Peaces better too. I had no idea this many people liked them better.
One thing though, a DMPL Morgan 63+ is very difficult to match for numismatic beauty!
Also, as has been mentioned here, I find that a truly high quality Peace is difficult and can be rather expensive.

I like Peace dollars because they are always easier to buy for spot or just a dollar over. I think in the future collectors will change their interests and they will become more valuable. at least that is my hope because I am trying to stack up on them.

Have to give my preference to the Peace dollar. She does have that slightly agape overbite, but the Morgan obverse is just, a very...strong, looking woman. As someone has said, the Peace dollar reverse is also superior, IMO.

Quote: an 1896 Morgan me dear old Grandma left me. My grandmother still has her 1924-D Peace dollar. Miss Morgan and the "Buzzard" eagle behind her tend to retain some eye appeal down to the lowest grades, whereas a few of my Peace dollars are so weakly struck that Miss Liberty and the Eagle look like "pocket pieces" even in XF/AU (compared to Morgans). My favorite Peace dollars are 1921's. Like Morgans, '21 Peaces look great even with lots of circulation wear.

silvercoinrn, You are right about the fact that Peace dollars are easy to pick up for just a few bucks above spot. I picked up a 1927d and 1934s VF today for quite a bit less than their value today. And I have to agree, she is "hotter" than Morgan's Liberty, regardless of how graders value her at!

Proof-Like Peace dollars are rare and have a small but loyal following. Someday I want to own a MS65PL Peace dollar. Any date accepted!

I just want to tell y'all to watch it with the linebacker comments. I played Antigone in my college theatre and with my hair up and in my costume, Miss Morgan and I could have been sisters. *gives you all the side-eye*
That said, I do like the later Liberty with the crown over that funny-looking cap, which to me looks like it came out of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
