Is lady liberty better looking in the head dress than in the phrygian cap or the crown of peace or mercury's cap? Or her early bowed hair flowing in the wind? This has been an interesting conversation...pretty much centered around the lady of liberty.... I miss her on our current coinage....almost as if we've lost a dream....

Quote: I take the expression on her face as looking toward the possibilities of the future with wonder, awe, maybe even a little bit of fear in that moment before she gathers her courage and jumps in I always thought it looked like she was waiting for some type of flying insect to fly into her mouth so she could slam it shut and have dinner Come on guys, you know Miss Anna W. Williams was a handsome woman! If you want to see a man playing a woman on a coin look no further than the Barber coins

Wait, the person on the Barber is also supposed to be a woman?
. . . . I thought it was the same person who's on the lower-denomination Swiss coins . . . who I'm pretty sure is male.

I too love the Peace dollars.....the really nice ones are hard to get...funny thing about them is that mintage numbers are not showing in the prices of them now....You can get some of the lower mintage ones at prices close to melt ...if you can go with raw coins in the vf-au range...This has probablly going on for a long time

The barber series features lady liberty wearing the Phrygian cap.

ninamason, you will notice that I defended the lady Morgans virtue.
And yeah, the Barbers version of Liberty and that Swiss one are more like a bad drag queen. LOL

This may be sacrilegious to some here on the forum, but what about the Half Disme? That's more than just a bad hair day...

I see that, Don, and I appreciate it I speak from experience: it's hard to rock that hairstyle when you're curvy. It accentuates EVERYTHING, in all the wrong ways. As for the Barber/Swiss Liberty . . . I wouldn't say bad drag queen. I hang out with drag queens and the not-so-great ones don't really look "manly," they just kinda hang out in this weird androgynous zone. I will go with EXCELLENT drag king, however.

Well, dear folks, if you are going to mean-mouth the Barbers you will have to go through me first! Ages ago, I bought a tee shirt in San Francisco while on vacation: "San Francisco, my favorite city. Where the women are strong, and the men are pretty." Liberty, in the face of adversity, HAS TO BE STRONG! If you want to see a womanly woman, look no further than the early Bust Designs. Bosom quite ... ample. Standing Liberty quarter, 1916 and 1917 Type 1, now THERE is a bosom on display. And WHO decided that Liberty can only be depicted by a female? Liberty is an ideal and not a person.

Well up until a few years ago Lady Liberty could only be born a lady, I guess modern medicine has changed that The barber lady liberty is very drag queenish but I still like the series so maybe matt will give me a pass on that comment. Might be time for a beauty contest, Morgan Lady Liberty vs Barber Lady Liberty

You'll never hear me complain about an "ample bosom"...now if they would only decide to re-mint the Peace dollar again like they almost did in 1964, but with the "ample bosom"... Speaking of the 1964 Peace dollar, is it true that one has still never surfaced?
