matt does not judge, basebal21, and he is not at all qualified to speak of woman's beauty.

Now, the Barber design -- an ugly woman or a beautiful lad?
I never look at it that way before. I'll have to think about it a while.

Another nice thing about Peace dollars and Morgan dollars is that not only can you get them near spot, if you make a list of ones that already have a numiastic value near spot (around $25 at the moment), then if silver continues to decline, they should hold their value fairly well as compared to bullion.

For some reason I never learned much about or got in to Barber coins.
I always assumed that was a young man on the obverse, thinking about it it's
probably because as a kid I had a friend name Ken Barber and there's the male barber's that cut your hair.
However it occurred that was always a male figure as far as I knew until this moment.
Funny thing - Preconceived notions, that is.

I have a Morgan set, Peace set, & a Dollar date set all in Dansco's. None of them are complete yet. But, I'm getting there. I agree that the Peace is more achievable as far as completion . But, I do prefer the Morgan Series. I like both obv. designs, but, the rev. design on the Morgan is much nicer. I can't help it that when I look at the rev. of a Peace dollar I see a pigeon. Just my dollars worth.

The eagle on a Morgan has always reminded me of a cormorant drying his wings.

I'm with Upstate and Nina, I always thought that was a man on the Barbers. I went "no freakin way" and off to Google I went. The early engravers had questionable taste lol.

Speaking of the 1964 Peace dollar, is it true that one has still never surfaced?

There are rumors that at least one has been traded privately since its existence but since I do not have the deep pockets nor have the trust of any of these people that I would need it from to see it, that is all I have to go on. I have talked with a couple people that swear they know for a fact its out there though. I doubt it will ever surface because of the fear it will join the fate of the 1933 St Gaudens coins because this is another coin that was not supposed to be released to the public and no other way I know of for anyone to have it. There is only one that I have heard about out there so the numbers are nowhere near what was out there of the 1933 also, so if this one coin goes back to the Govt. there will be none left unless they do it like they did the one 1933 Gold Eagle they made legal but that would be a roll of the dice if that would happen or not

For some reasons, morgans are more popular than Peace dollars and when people are buying junk silver dollars, they prefer morgans to peace. I like them both!

I once had a replica Athenian Tetradachm. I felt dirty for owning it when I discovered what it was. Of course anyone buying a Carr 1964d would know that it was a fantasy if they did their research, right?

Well, given that Liberty was originally a goddess, I would have to say that yes, she must be represented by a woman. And I object to the idea that a beautiful woman cannot also be strong, or that a woman who is strong cannot be beautiful. (She said, having spent her evening flinging 60-pound boxes of syrup all over the storage room trying to cram them into an ever-smaller space.)

. . . . also I think I'm at least somewhat qualified to comment on women's beauty, being one and enjoying looking at others, and I would have to say "Miss" Barber would fool the heck outta me in a "born or drag" contest.

The mint was going to fire up the large dollar program again in 1964. A bunch of them were minted for samples and such and it was decided not to actually produce the coin. As the security on these coins was less than stellar, all that were distributed were not tracked. The odds that all of them made it back to the mint when they were recalled are miniscule.

I am personally of the opinion that there are a good number of them out there that will never surface due to our government being retarded.

I don't normally take issue with how people choose to express, but please, smokerider, consider finding another perjorative in the future. My uncle is mentally retarded and also one of the sweetest, kindest, most loving men you will ever meet, and smart in ways many of us can only dream of. The word "stupid" doesn't offend anyone and is also far more accurate.
