Some ignorant kid in one of my classes tried to sell me some 2 dollar bills for $3 a piece, I was too smart to fall for that, and told him, "they're not worth anything over face and as a matter of fact, I probably had them before you"

I remember the day in 1976 that they were first issued. You could take them to the post office and they stamped them with a cancellation and stamp as well. (you of course had to pay for the stamps) It was something interesting to have. I don't see them much in circulation at all. I think, like the dollar coin, most just for what ever reason don't want to use them. I may get some the next trip to the bank just for the fun of it. Two dollar bills and halves, use them both for tips and small purchases.

1976 was when they started issuing again after not printing for a while.

There are threads where they have a countdown of anyone spending halves and dollar coins. It might be fun to do it with the $2 bill as well. Anyone interested?

Also got another one without the stamp that was canceled on July 4th that I got from the bank...

If you ever go to Monticello in Virginia they use $2 bills for making change. I think I read someplace that they are the largest user of $2 bills in the US. Of course it was them that convinced their congresscritters to pass a law to retain the Jefferson nickel in perpetuity, so we are stuck with that design for the foreseeable millennia. I suspect they will do the same when people try to eliminate small bills like the $2...
