So time to get rid of my Roll searching Half dollars well at least the 40% ones So what would be my best option for the highest return? One lot on ebay BIN at melt? One lot on ebay Auction? Small lots on ebay? Send them to Kitco/Ampex? Sell them privately?

try and dump them at your local B&M shop to save the hassle of shipping

Yea I agree. I would sell them local. Maybe even post an ad on CL. You probably wont get melt for these coins though. A lot of people do not like to purchase them for melt falue. Try selling them for 90% melt

I've been watching the ebay auctions recently and circulated quality stuff almost always goes for right around melt. You then pay both ebay and PayPal their cuts, which will leave you well under melt. As for the BIN @ melt option, you'd end up the same way. I think a lot of people would pay you as well or better and you wouldn't have to go through the Ebay/PayPal hassles. You'd probably do best in a private sale and very possibly via CCF listing. I'd also bet that a CCF listing @ a hair under melt would cause your 40% to blast off out of your life like a Tomahawk missile and leave you a bit better off than the Ebay/PayPal route would. Good luck with your unloading efforts...

I too have been looking to unload 40% halves. They are a much harder sell than the 90% coins so I have been watching prices paid by Provident metals. Today they are paying a little over 93% of spot on these.

Quote: Maybe even post an ad on CL CL is pretty risky for stuff like this. Lots of people out there whod be more than happy to show you a gun when you show them all that silver. IF your trying to do it all at once something like provident metals is probably the best bet. If not smaller lots would probably be better listed in a variety of places and see where they sell the best. Do like a 10-25 face value lot here and ebay and just keep replacing them when they sell.

I was in the same situation and ended up selling it locally as I netted MORE than any other method.
On a large lot like the one you have... I would shop it around as some b&m's would give more for larger quantities than single rolls.
The fair price on something like this on a forum...is for the buyer to pick up the additional expenses...but not many folks seem to understand this concept well on forums.
Let's look at this way...in this case the buyer on a forum would have to pay the pp fees, shipping and Ins in addition to what you would get locally.
Kitco / ampex MAY BE... and will let someone else speak about it as I have not done any dumps at those locations.

With ebay fees and PayPal it would have to be significantly over melt to make it worth while From Provident I can currently get $90.20 a roll On ebay they sell for around $98 if I'm lucky So by the time you have taken fees into account I am better off selling to Provident or some other refinery.

If there is a coin show near you - someone is always buying there and you can maybe get a few different quotes. That's how I sold mine. My local coin shop was giving me a really bad offer on them - but the guy said it's because no one comes in looking to buy 40% silver. Everyone wants 90% coin, bars, or one oz rounds.
