I just came across an interesting Morgan at the local pawn shop. It is a 1897 Morgan, but upon closer look , it had a micro-o mint mark. Now I know that the New Orleans mint sometimes used several different dies in the same year and that the mint marks were added to the dies separately at the Phila mint and shipped out to the other mints, so not all the mint marks are consistent shapes and sizes. But this is definitely a micro-o. No pics, haven't bought it yet. Any info ? I know PCGS has confirmed several years of counterfeit micro 0's. Counterfeit or a new VAM.
He is a nice guy that I have bought a lot of stuff from, I told him that I would investigate it before I let him sell it to me for under RedBook value. I will tell him I need pics and post them.
How well were you able to examine the coin? Was in in a holder or in hand? (Trying to get a feel for likely it is that it really is micro-o and not some sort of PMD.)
