Last year at this time I was looking back at the coins my dad and I collected. I had not done anything with them in over 10 years. The spike in silver got me thinking. In the last several months I have begun collecting again and have joined this forum. Now I'm just waiting for Feb and the next coin show. I wish there were more shows in the WI winter.

Quote: I finished my Peace set which was the major focus for 2012 so I'm happy. Congratulations! Quote:Goal for 2013- complete Indian cents, 2 to go. Excellent! I have twelve to go. Somehow I managed to buy just one IHC this year, and that one ended up in my 7070.

I found another one. hereMy goal was to start and finish a Liberty nickel set and complete the 7070. As far as that goes I failed miserably I managed to get 5 Libertys in MS including the 1912S then got side tracked thanks to Hondo and started working on a Franklin set. I backtracked on the 7070 but in a good way. Now 9 holes(was 6) to fill but whats in there now I wont be upgrading. On the bright side I have become way better at grading coins on the fly as I put it a year ago.

Pending on where you live and how far your willing to drive, there are usually coin shows all the time, somewhere. In the upper Illinois area there are 4 coin shows a Month, every Month, all year long.

Wow, Coindog and jbuck -- I totally forgot about that thread I started about goals for 2012! Quote:I might make additional silver purchases if the prices dip significantly, but I'm happy with what I've got right now and don't feel quite the urgency I did last year to stock up. For 2012, I think my main goal will be to periodically upgrade select coins in my 7070 Album. Maybe a better 20-cent piece and some better Barber coins across the board. As part of that goal, I hope to get some older commemorative half dollars such as the 1920 Pilgrim commemorative and the 1925 Lexington - Concord commemorative. I'd say I did really well with my stated goals for this year: - I did pickup a much nicer example of a 20-cent piece:

- I also picked up a spiffy looking Barber half dollar:

- I did pick up both a 1920 Pilgrim commemorative and a 1925 Lexington - Concord commemorative:

Oh -- and I did manage to pick up a couple of monster boxes of silver and 4 100-ounce silver bars when silver prices dipped significantly, so that was nice as well. My only regret is that I didn't get even more silver when it was hanging out around $26-27 before going back up.

I did actually better than I envisioned (thanks to my part-time job) along with a couple of upgrades to boot while completing the non-gold portion of my slabbed 7070. Goal for 2012; fill some more spots in my 7070. Although the empty spots hit a little harder in the pocket with each remaining one. Slow and steady wins the race.I am working on the gold "page" (three out of twelve so far) which I did not think that I would try to accomplish. Goal for 2013: finish the gold page! Whew! That is going to be an endeavor! Needed: Type III $1, Liberty $2.5, Indian $5, Liberty and Indian $10 and Liberty and St Gaudens $20.

Quote:The Twenty Cent Piece is my white whale. Well, I used to think the 20-cent piece was one of the ugliest coin ever produced by the U.S. Mint due to the scrawny turkey on the reverse, but once I finally got a decent example I realized that it is actually quite beautiful in higher grades.

I've been doing fine my Morgan date set, but I've wanted to tuck away some silver eagles. Then my youngest daughter showed up and said she wanted to start collecting. All right, I only gave up one eagle. But when you're trying to reach a goal and the holidays are coming, etc.,etc.,etc.

I did not complete my 1909 to present Lincoln Cent set, but awfully close. Of interest, NONE of the key dates are holding me back. Four dates/mm left, but none found in MS63/4 R or RB. The hunt continues.

Was able to purchase more coins for my collection this year than any previous year in the past, so I'd call 2012 a very productive year. Added a number of coins for my type set and have almost every coin needed for a standard 7070 except for some of the early copper, a few inexpensive moderns, and the contents of the gold page. Hopefully 2013 will see me complete my type set at least up to 7070 standards and then perhaps if my budget allows I may go after some of the earlier types like the Draped Bust coinage. I'm likely going to return to college at some point so I need to enjoy this time between degrees and with a little extra financial flexibility as much as I can.

Thought I had completed my Equatorial Guinea banknote collection (excluding Central African State issues) but found that there were a couple of new varities - Still have one to go to complete collection - Still not end of 2012 yet!
