i started collecting coins in november 2011, so I've only been collecting a year...but I've been going crazy buying all sorts of stuff I wouldn't have dreamed i'd have in my desk back in october 2011! my goal of the rest of the year is actually not to buy any more coins! hope I make it! (i have some bid on ebay now..but after that...no more till January).

After reading about all the purchases the CCF members are making, I'm thinking about being a Santa Claus to myself. I'm going back to the coin shop this Friday. I try to keep it to bi-weekly and I was just there last week!

(Altho I already replied in this thread with a long rambling post thought I'd make another.) Regarding the thread from earlier this year: https://goccf.com/t/106990&whichpage=2I'd forgotten about the linked thread too. Made a reply January 18 as to what my goals were, and out of the 14 I succeeded in making 11 goals. Here's my goals I set for myself: Quote:1) finishing up my Indianhead Cent set (4 to complete) 2) finishing up my Buffalo nickel set (1 to complete) 3) finishing up my Liberty nickel set (3 to complete) 4) working on my Shield nickel set (6 to complete) 5) get one of every 2012 American coin P & D mint 6) get one of every 2012 Canadian coin 7) get 2012 ASE8) working on my silver 46-64 Roosevelt dime set (about half way there) 9) finishing up my 20th Century Type set (just 1 to go) 10) working on my USA large cents (about half way there) 11) maybe get one of the 4 key date Lincoln Cents I'm missing (long shot tho; maybe find a good price) 12) working on my Canadian large cent collection (8 to complete) 13) buy my first 2¢ piece 14) buy my first 3¢ nickel Here's now I did: 1) Indianhead Cent set: down to 2 2) Buffalo nickel set: completed this year 3) Liberty nickel set: completed this year 4) Shield nickel set: completed this year 5) one of every 2012 American coin P & D mint: done 6) one of every 2012 Canadian coin: done 7) 2012 ASE: done 8) silver 46-64 Roosevelt dime set: completed this year 9) finishing up my 20th Century Type set: still need one 10) USA large cents: still working on the set 11) 4 key date Lincoln Cents: still missing the 4 12) Canadian large cent collection: 2 to complete 13) my first 2¢ piece: done 14) my first 3¢ nickel: done (along with a couple of 3¢ silvers) Sorry for the long read but I have too much time on my hands this afternoon.

Quote: build a photography set using my camera. I partially finished this already... I'm going to remake it with better materials when I can find them cheap.

I have a hunt list and this year was, for me, an unbelievable year. For the last 9 years three particular coins were on my hunt list yet I only ever thought I might find one of them. In May this year I hit the jackpot.....the first Documented 1780 struck Guenzburg MTT ie: an original strike( after that coin turned up two more quickly found their way onto the market) but I got the first!
The second turned up last month it was a rare Vienna mint 1780 strike ( that October find is the second now documented example).
So given the phenomenal luck this year I am wondering will I hit the third..... Its current Krause valuation is well out of Sync with its European valuation.
I must acknowledge that I do have the advantage that I am hunting in a field that is poorly known and there is heaps of places to "hunt".

I entered the game during the spring, and spent untold dozens of hours reading CCH threads. The single most important thing I ever read was a statement about the importance of establishing specific collecting goals--and by extension, a plan to proceed toward achievement of those goals. So, I chose precise collecting activities and set carefully defined limits. My only real goal for this year was to stick with those activities/limits and thereby (hopefully) avoid making any costly mistakes.
I stuck almost entirely with the chosen activities and stayed almost entirely inside the limits, but still made some mistakes. Got a few quality learning experiences from them, and thankfully none of them caused any significant financial damage. In addition, spot value increases in the last 6 months have already more than erased the minor financial damage caused by the mistakes. Never collected anything else before where that happened!
So - I guess I achieved my goal for the year.
My goal, activities and limits will be staying the same, so the odds of making mistakes should theoretically be continuously decreasing over time. With luck, I should finish next year the same way I'm finishing this year.

I did fairly well this year, at least by my standards. I finally completed my Proof ASE set (1986-2012) all with OGP and COA. Just yesterday I filled the last 4 slots of my Kennedy Dansco Album (Inlcuding proof-only issues). I still can't believe how heavy that thing is. I have gotten my Lincoln Dansco (1909-2012) down to only 7 empty slots. I stacked about 50 more ounces of silver. Next year's goals: At least 100 more ounces and I want to start and complete either a Peace dollar album or a Franklin album.

I finished my wheatie set other than the back of a steelie. I have almost finished the nickel album other than a 1950. As for the Presidential dollars, got a few more for dansco. Gotta get a new nickel album and more 2X2s.

Ive never set any real goal other than stack as much as I can without getting divorced Still a few weeks away but I think I got this 1 in the bag. I'm less than 3 oz away from 100oz stack. Some of you may have seen my thread. My goal is to get there by the end of the year. As for 2013 I think I'm about to start a new thread inspired by this 1! CHEERS!

I was going to work on finishing sets I had been working on, but it was not to be. :-) Sold more than I bought, but I did find a nice affordable Capped Bust Dollar, my first of that series, and did start an MS Peace dollar Set. (5 pieces so far)

I didn´t complete any part of my collection, but I bought 11 new nice coins. maybe this sounds funny to someone. but if you look at the prices for each coin....
so in my opinion, I made a normal progress. year by year, the collection is growing.

Quote: I didn´t complete any part of my collection, but I bought 11 new nice coins. Maybe this sounds funny to some Platinrubel ... depending on the 11 coins may not be funny at all. I do understand the thought of just buying better coins when they come along. I would like to "NOT" start any more sets, because I become obsessed with just filling the empty holes. Or I buy some coins because they are interesting to me, and not really in the higher grades that I know I would like better.
