Why pay $1199 for the 1913/1914 $10 coins when you could still get them for $1000 at the Mint? I was wondering the same thing as well. It's not like you aqre saving the taxes as CA will tax you as well. How come these 2 are not sold out yet? |

the other interesting question is since we know about 15000 of these coins went to dealers, did they have early access, were they allowed to pick their coins or were they allowed to return if yes, then we know who is getting the picked over coins. From this forum JM seems to be only canadian dealer recently to carry these coins kind off odd which dealers ordered most of the hoard?

House of stamps (square 1, Mississauga) has no bank of Canada hoard coins at all. The dealer said he ordered a few but they hadn't been shipped yet. This leads me to believe they did not get to "cherry pick" coins. Seems to be playing the waiting game to get his coins just like anyone else.

I doubt very much dealers had a chance to cherry pick them, just as collectors, we don't get to cherry pick them, unless we are in a position of seeing a whole bunch to choose from without any time constraints. Further, in the video, Sandy Cameron states that "the current top census numbers are not going to change"....that means this hoard is not going to contain a MS68 that is going to unseat the current 1/1 MS 67 for a given denomination. However, there are lots of PCGS MS63's and NGC MS64s......did you see that NGC MS64 on ebay.....huge bag marks in the fields....however, I am not going to comment further on TPG until I see some ICCS results. |

just checked pcgs pop report over 4000 certify into special holders, not a member of NGC, cant see their pop report, where did all these coins come from?

If there is 15,000 coins to dealers, where are they? The big dealers like Gatewest don't have any. The figure can't be correct, that would only mean 15,000 coins are available to collectors. If that is the case, the coins would have been sold out long time ago.
Besides, how can you cherry pick them unless you physically go to the Mint. J&M Coins is the biggest dealer in BC and they had to wait for their shipment like everyone else.

I'd say dealers got first crack 4000 is a huge number I have a feeling (Steven Bromberg, or any other big player such as APMEX got first crack at these coins) Sent them off for certification and are holding them for future sale. I would hate to be any buyer of these coins over the initial offering price as these coins even in mid ms condition are only going to sell slightly above melt |

The mint is a company and not stupid. If they allow dealers to cherry pick, they will be left with crappy coins to sell. What is there to gain for them. If they allow dealers to cheery pick = mint giving money away. I dont see that being a possibility.

I dont see that being a possibility.Yes, if you watch the video, PCGS and SAndy DISAGREED with the RCM's decision.....PCGS would have wanted to cherry pick 50,000, grade them, and offer them through their dealer network, in the USA!.....so why would the mint leave money on the table? Ultimately, that is us, the CDN taxpayers....

If dealers had priority or allowed to cherry pick, what is stopping them from picking certain year like the $1914 $5 coin which as the lowest mintage. And buying them all. Remember there were only 5000 $5 coins available. They could have bought all of them.

if large dealer orders were allowed a return policy, the end result would be like picking their coins. On the video how does he know that 15000 of these coins went to dealers unless he brokered it.

Unless I see proof of a mass melting, who knows how many are really out there.
Obviously PCGS just received 4000 coins.
