@ SA4H Thank you for the NCG & PCGS reports. It's wonderful knowing not many coins are graded below MS62. Initially we were all wondering about the RCM's grading of HS, PHS and those going to be melted. From all the members here including myself, we are all happy with what we received. I am very staisfied with my 1914 $10HS, and can't wait for each of the $5HS and 1912 $10HS to be delivered.

I actually spoke to an individual that has more insights about these gold coins. It was not RCM staff that determined if it was hand-selected or premium hand-selected, but is a very well known individual in the Canadian coin community that was contracted by the Mint to help out with the determination of the two types of qualities from the vast amount of coins.

That's a lot of coins to go through one by one. I wonder if any of them that didn't meet a minimum criteria, what happened to those?

I assume those doesn't meet the minimum criteria are going to the melting pot.... May be that's why there are major delay in the shipping of these coins.... I'd called to today for the status of my order (1914 $5 HS), the rep said, should be shipped next week..... sound familiar?

Very warm Panda!
@ jsinger21: And yes, supposedly, this individual went through the ENTIRE 240,000 coins, hence this discovery was two to three years in the making before they officially launched the gold coins in November 2012.

Back in late january at the CAND show in hamilton, a well known collector mentions that he knows thar ICCS was consulted on these gold coins if so, why didnt the RCM just hire him or another TPG and grade all these coin? As for Hoop 130 comments about the two pop reports, a very repected member on another thread about a new member wanting to purchase the premium set based solely on the RCM reputation, he says he has seen two sets and over 20 of these coins none grading at best ms 60. Many of the photos posted except for a few premium 10.00coins the obverse has too many bag marks, maybe ms60. Begs the question why are these coins not at least ms 62 like the 4000 coins already in the pop report.

Got today my HS 1914 $5 - one of two coins (the Mint rep previously said that they will be shipped together).
But never mind...
I am happy, it looks so nice. Actually there are not many bag marks on the obverse that could be seen without magnifying. And the reverse is clean, like on the fresh NCLT coin.

i did say some of the 10.00 coins were very nice, like yours easy ms 63 or 64, but why the other coins not be at least ms 62?

Since I couldn't get a 1912 $5 from the hoard, I bought a non-hoard one. Does anyone know where I can get a capsule and the black piece that holds the coin so when I display them $5 set, they look the same? Or if anyone gets their coin graded, do you want to sell me the one that came with the coin since it'll be in a plastic slab anyhow? I don't need the holograms, coa, or box that they came in, just the capsule.

Colonialacres had a selection of clamshell boxes and capsules. I bought square capsules, but saw round ones too of various sizes. I think the boxes are black, so it would somewhat match your other coins.

MJT that picture on 115 Nice coin but I'd say ICCS would put it at ms-62 max
Like many have said its easy to grade non ms coins once a coin becomes high MS it's almost impossible to grade via pictures online

Swrbxx, I collect not only NCLT coins but also decimals. I have a nice collection of dollars and 50 cents. This 5 dollar coin would definitely grade minimum 63 and 50 percent chance at 64 for ICCS. For pcgs it is easy 64, 64plus.
