@ Devack...I haven't seen any with 'cracks' but I will have a closer look later.

So, just an update. My father received his 1914 $5 premium select today. It had 2 security stickers and WOW this coin was beautiful, slightly nicer than my premium select.

I have 8 of these coins, the complete set of all 6 + 2 extra 1914 $5. All hand selected and every one of them has 2 stickers on them. There is no way these are all errors. They definitely need to have 2 stickers to prevent tampering.

I received 4 gold coins so far and all of them have 2 stickers on them. Having one must be an error, not the other way around plus with only one sticker it is easier to tamper with it.

Ok, sorry if I have mislead anyone but it looks like I got the 'defective' coin. I looked again and it's only one of my coins that has ONE security sticker only. Must have been a Friday afternoon job, I'm not too concerned about it but it will be interesting to see if anyone else has the same problem?

Again, sorry if I have mislead any CCF memebers.

Just got back from Vancouver coin show at Oakridge. 4 dealers had hoard coins. One delusional dealer was asking $2888 for his "sold out" 1914 PS $10. Another had 2 1913 $5 for $650 each and 2 others were asking $1300 for their 1912 $10's.

tripoli;
Do the dealers charge tax on top of the asking prices? The prices for the 1913 and 1914 coins seem reasonable. Not including the "delusional dealer" of course. Are they opened to offers? I wonder if they will sell a 1913 $5 for $600.

And how about new NCLT? Do any have the glass butterfly?

I know of someone who bought a 1913 $5 for $600 final price from a dealer (not in Vancouver though)

Was at the coin show as well in Vancouver today. Saw those coins. The seller of the $10 PHS said he was negotiable. His price of $2888 was ridiculious, and did not bother to ask what his best price was. Almost all of his coins were overpriced.

I was at the Vancouver coin show this afternoon and was able to pick up one of the 1913 $5 gold coins for $615, just at closing time. One of the coins had rim chips so I did not choose that one. I was also able to buy a 1912 $5 for $600. I think I did well today.

I think its a win-win, seller avoid eBay/Paypal/shipping fee, buyer get better price and can check coin in person.

The sticker is actually more fragile than what some here are suggesting.

One I had was placed on a bump on the capsules crease and started to rip just with the pressure placed on it by being in the box. Attempt to remove it and replace it on a different section on the capsule with a scalpel was quickly aborted when the slightest movement started to cause separation of the layers of the sticker.

Trying to remove the sticker with a blade will prove to be difficult. If the capsule has only one sticker, removing it is not necessary as the capsule can be opened with the sticker acting as a hinge. The wider the capsule is opened, the more likely there will be damage to the sticker. I haven't tried using solvents such as "goo gone" or acetone but they may work however I would imagine some might damage the capsule itself. Also a new adhesive would have to be applied to replace the sticker. All in all, I'd suggest leaving the stickers as is, even if they were poorly placed by the mint.
