Here is a photograph of my 1913 $10.

Bank-Of-Canada-1912-14-Gold-Coin-Special-RCM-Release

The one directional lighting (and my poor photography skills) shows some of the luster, but exaggerates the bag-marks and hides the details of the coin; the actual coin looks much nicer in hands.

This is my first post in this forum.

I ordered my 1913 $10 HS on Sept. 1, 2013, and received it on the 22nd! The Mint went out of stock soon after I ordered, so I might have one of the very last ones. My coin looks like a typical HS seen on this thread, complete with lots of bag marks on the obverse and very nice luster on both sides. It will probably grade MS-62 (ICCS) to MS-63 (PCGS/NGC), but I'm not going to send it for grading. Overall, I'm very happy with this 100 years old coin.

I'm now working on a 1913 $5 HS deal.

I guess no one was paying attention when the 1913 $10 HS coin finally sold out. This is the first time anyone mentioned it. It slipped by everyone.

That means only the 1914 $10 HS, the 1913 and 1914 $10 Premium gold coins remain.

That is an amazing acheivement, the Mint selling all 6650 of the 1913 $10 HS. It equals $6,650,000.

These gold coins are beautiful indeed. I wish I could afford them. I sold my $5 1914.

The mint doesn't make any money on these as they are selling it for the Bank of Canada. They are nice coins in hand

I think they have to add on some type of commission, they wouldn't go through the trouble of packing, shipping and selling because they love the hobby. I'm sure they got their slice of pie.
Rest in Peace

I'm sure the mint had some 'value added' into the selling of those coins. Each coin was encapsulated, sealed with special hologram foil, and sold in a clamshell case. The Bank of Canada certainly didn't do any of the prep work.

I've spoke to some folks in boutique, as far as they know, the mint doing this to attract collectors. What they get is the attentions and new customers that may not have interest in buying from RCM.

Questions, for the one that are not releases by RCM, how much is a 1913 $5 goes for now? I would presume the quality may not be as good as the hand selected one from RCM? How much were they goes for before the RCM release in November?

Great news about the 1913 Canada Gold 10.00 hand selected selling out..i checked recently and could have swore it was still for sale but how time flies.. that will up the price for sure and the 14s will sell faster now....the premium selects are gonna be the last to go..they should reduce the price on those coins but I guess that would create big waves and heck..theyve had em for 100 years so even a couple more wont make a difference

Wow, those are some pretty pretty coins, SPP-Ottawa!

Got my 1913 $5 for $530+tax yesterday! I thought the $5 ones are supposed to be uglier than their $10 counterpart (not sure why I thought that), but this coin seems like quite a bit more preserved than my $10 one... very clean, even on the obverse field, a solid MS 63+! I realized, regardless of the prices on ebay --which most of the times go unrealized-- these can still be found for almost the issue price, specially the ungraded ones.

It was sort of an under the table (err.. ebay) deal, so I can't really expose the seller... he was in the same city as I am, so we decided to cut off the middlemen (eBay, Paypal, and Canada Post), thus giving me around $80 discount! Also, as I said, I factored out 13% tax from it so the price sounds nicer :D. I figured, if I would have bought it from the Mint, I had to pay them tax anyway! The total was thus $600 (=$530+tax).
