Looks like sales (or other) department waits a thinks - "where from to buy coin back and send it to the customer?"
It sure smells at this point like they oversold, or worse, insiders skimmed the coins allocated to buyers, and now they are desperately recycling returns. I'd wager I received the absolutely worst 1914 $5 they released. MS-60 and it would get remarks on the digs. A complete joke for waiting four months, but I wasn't about to return it and have it foisted on some other poor soul.

People who got the coins early, like in January, rave how good they were. Others like me who got the coins in May/June are not impressed with them. The coins I got were sort of OK, but not great.
I think the better coins were cherry picked, perhaps by other dealers, leaving the not so good ones. Either that or they went back to the pile of to be melted coins to find some to fill orders.

Thanks for giving us your update SA4H. I'm glad to hear that received your replacement capsule, BUT I am shocked that the mint sent you back a different coin, and one that you consider to be "not as good looking". I find this completely unacceptable. You asked for a replacement capsule, not an inferior quality coin. I would be mad. That fact that you now have to go seeking your shipping refund is just adding insult to injury. Of course, what do you expect from a Crown Corporation? For those of you like yunbo who are STILL waiting to receive you hoard coins, you have my sympathy. My other thoughts cannot be written here.

Thank you Moose for your sympathy. However, the time and effort to rectify the situation doesn't seem worth it for me. I don't want to spend more money to send this coin back for another coin with unknown quality and then have to request another refund for the postage of the second package..... We all know what the term MONOPOLY mean.

I can well understand how you feel, SA4H. It's not worth the hassle, especially when you have to deal with border crossings and customs as well. Anyway, I'm sure your kids will enjoy the coin and one day you can tell them about the cracked capsule and the coin switcheroo.

SA4H, do you mind posting a pick of the coin? if it's that bad i'd certainly call them up and demand a return with them sending you a post paid sticker or something.

Hi Lostwords!
I believe there will always be an interest in these 100 year old plus coins. They are not only beautiful, but are a significant part of Canadian numismatic history.

I'm sure it'll be some time before these coins get bumped down the list of my #1 coins.

This is my first post in this forum.
I ordered my 1913 $10 HS on Sept. 1, 2013, and received it on the 22nd! The Mint went out of stock soon after I ordered, so I might have one of the very last ones. My coin looks like a typical HS seen on this thread, complete with lots of bag marks on the obverse and very nice luster on both sides. It will probably grade MS-62 (ICCS) to MS-63 (PCGS/NGC), but I'm not going to send it for grading. Overall, I'm very happy with this 100 years old coin.
I'm now working on a 1913 $5 HS deal.
