it's possible that there are not many "good quality" 1912 in this offer, because they have been in circulation the longest. they don't even have a seperate 1912 $10 premium

Is the current trends really going to be affected? If the prices are based on a mintage of let's say 30,000
Don't people assume there's approx 30,000 out there? I understand there will more available for sale but
like someone mentioned before, the leftovers will be melted lowering the mintage and the publicity of this
sale might spur more to want to collect this series.... So maybe it will balance out..... Just a thought.

Yesterday, I ordered one $500 hand-selected 1912. I am more of a collector and less an investor. That being said, I know the comparative mintages dictate that 1914 is likely the prudent choice from a potential capital appreciation standpoint. But I like the historical tie-in and appeal of having one of the first year coins and opted for one (higher mintage be damned). As always with new releases, it will be interesting to see what happens to the prices of these coins over time. Can't wait to get mine!

I agree, they available for phone order. But why not online?
What is a difference?

When I called them, the "estimated waiting time is greater than 30 minutes".
So I immediately disconnected the call and ordered online the 1914 $5.

Just talked to someone at Master's Club, release numbers for the $5 hand-selected (not premium) coins are:
1912: 1336
1913: 1790
1914: 1924
Not sure how many of each are left

another explanation why 1912 $5 sells faster is that most people have no idea what their mintage is, they just assume the older the better

That's just it; availability is a major contributor here and certainly in the short term one would expect prices to come down. On the other hand, the hype caused by this discovery may spur interest and who knows might actually have the opposite effect. I presume that most of these coins have never circulated - so I expect a negative impact on prices for higher grades.

2012 War of 1812 $10 1/4 oz Gold coin.

http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/fine-...rowseAll=yes

What do you think? Is this comparable to the 1912-1914 $5 coins?

Nicer finish, similar weight, similar price. The old coins are well, older. But at only 2000, the 2012 has a much lower mintage.

Opinions?

Why is the 6 coin set $12,000 if you can buy them individually for less?

What, is the case made out of other coins? Maybe ones that they just realized they have, from late 1800's?

The set is supposed to be the best 140 coins of each denomination and year (implying better than even the premium) and the 1912 $10 premium was not available as an individual coin.
