OK, this is my first request for grading advice here on CCF. A co-worker asked me to look a whole bunch of silver US coins from his late father. One Morgan and the lone copper piqued my interest and I would like your help in determining their grades. Thanks.
1819 Large Cent
1921 Morgan
The Morgan doesn't have the best eye appeal of those I was asked to look at, but it looks like the highest grade of the bunch. It's a little dirty, but that makes me think there was less chance that it was cleaned.
The large cent looks about Very Good for details but has corrosion issues. The Morgan dollar grades about EF-45. As the most common date in the Morgan series it probably will be valued at close to the bullion price for the silver content (0.773 troy ounces). There are however many varieties of 1921 Morgans, some of which are expensive. If you can post the best possible photos of the coin in the VAM forum the experts could likely attribute it for you.
The Morgan doesn't show any of the obvious added-value features; very few 1921-P's have desirability below Mint State grades, and all those have naked-eye errors. Even the Infrequently Reeded coins (the D2 reverse is a biggie, but this coin is a D1) don't really carry a premium if circulated.
