I check every 2000P I come across in hopes of being the "official first" finder of a wild Cheerios dollar.
I have found some great stuff over the last few years in boxes of halves and nickels and cents but most of my dollar coins come from tellers trays 5 at a time and I have only done 3 boxes of dollar coins when I needed that high dollar amount to pay off my credit card bill so I have not gone through that many.
Based on the number of replies in this thread there does not appear to be too many dollar coin searchers so I suspect that if any of them that were released into the wild which I assume most were at the time they were released and equally distributed across the country that it will be a long time before one surfaces and I predict it will be well worn.
I was at a bank in a grocery store a couple of weeks ago that I stop at once every 2-3 weeks and the teller was trying to get me to sign up for their credit card when I asked for halves and dollar coins.
I told her if she had a Cheerios dollar I would sign up and refer EVERY relative I knew to come in as well. She proceeded to look at the dollar coins until I told her that you needed a loupe to find one and I explained the difference and the history to her. Unfortunately there was not a Cheerios dollar in the lot as I would have gladly held up my end of the bargain had there been one.
