So I am wanting to start adding to my silver hoard by picking up some 90% silver. I have gone by the local coin shop a few times and he is always sold out. He has people he calls when stuff comes in and its accounted for within a few minutes. Is there anywhere else that I can buy from. APMEX is too expensive. Any reputable sites out there that charge good prices. Thanks

I always thought APMEX to be fairly reasonable. What kinda amount and prices were you looking for?

Once you get 50 posts you can buy from here on the forum. Lots of listings at reasonable prices if you are patient.

I'm wanting to get something like a roll at a time. When I calculated it out for APMEX, for example the Roosevelt dimes roll of 50, came out to about a $6/oz premium. I would expect 90% silver to be cheaper than ASE's, Maples, etc. or I will just buy them instead.

If you want to reduce the premium on 90% silver coins, think bags, not rolls. That can provide a substantial percentage price reduction but a higher overall buy-in. I like APMEX for the fact that they are among the few coin / PM dealers who even offer BU and AU grade coins. Everyone offers circulated coins, which are cheaper but also not as nice looking. If all you want is silver in small discrete units, circulated coins are the way to go IF you can find a decent price. Have you looked at GoldMart or Provident Metals for their "junk silver" prices?

I get my best deals on 90% at weekend coin shows. Area shops sell out fast (unless you want the very worn coins). I have not been lucky enough to find below spot 90% coins that others seem to find. I usually get them right around spot. In many cases ASE's might be a better buy but the old coins are fund to go through. I am always reminded that cheaper on the front end means cheaper when you go to sell.

I agree with tpg22, weekend coin shows offer good deals.

If you go to a local gold buyer/pawn shop and tell them your intentions, I bet they will make you a deal.

Coin shows and CL are usually best. For small quantities, ebay may be ok if you are patient enough.

I too have been looking at the CCF Member Sales Section (not eligible yet, but will be soon). Has buying on here generally been a good experience for those who have done it?

I've bought a number of times from a few select members. I've never had any issue whatsoever. There's a lot of good people around here.

you deal with them on a personal level, not like ebay. I love it! made some very large 400$+ sales quite a few times

Do y'all think that 90% coinage is one of the better more easy to find deals through CCF? Especially if we are talking smaller amounts like rolls instead of bags?

well depending on who you deal with (i know for canadian 80%) you can get "junk" below spot sometimes, never .999 bullion.

Agreed with jake on this one. You can find 90% quite often too below melt but just below. As for .999 here on CCF...you can pick some up here and there for what places like APMEX and kitco offer per oz. The thing is shipping costs usually run up the cost per oz when you only want 1 or 2. Here, you can get it for their price shipped. Still better through here when you get a chance. Just gotta be quick

Like others have mentioned the key to most of the online sights like APMEX and provident metals is to buy in bulk and reduce the shipping fee per coin, especially APMEX who does have a high baseline shipping price. Silvertowne has stuff too but never check out their 90 percent prices
