I was at my local shop the other day, and was looking at a 2011 specimen and was thinking of purchasing it (which I did) but a comment by the owner got me thinking.

He said that this particular coin was currently going for more of a premium than usual because of the low mintage of this year.

Not really knowing Canadian mintage figures I really couldn't agree or diagree with him. That's why I putting the question here.

I liked the coin so I purchased it with the intent of putting it with my others. By the way he was asking almost $6 over spot and said that he was giving me a special price. Just how special I'm not sure, but I know that it was more that a silver eagle (which I also bought).

Hopefully, you're not referring to a standard 2011 SML because they are far from low mintage. Six dollars over spot sure would be a very 'special' price.

Not sure there were any 2011 privy mark SMLs (maybe an f15?) so perhaps it was a Grizzly or Wolf? or a Maple Leaf forever 1/2 oz? Or a 20 for 20 Maple Leaf? In any of those cases save the Grizzly, $6 over spot would be a very good price.

I should have mentioned that it was a Grizzly. Sorry about the lack of a complete identification. I should have known better. Thanks for the replies.

No problem. The Grizzly mintage was 1M.

6 over spot is not a bad price but now you need the other 4 coins in the series plus the next one coming out soon.
