I bet the price will be the same...or maybe they will give a break and drop it $10 because of only one proof type (reverse)
I also think the 1 month thing is fair....it levels the field much more than household limits. With limits the dealers have ZERO problems getting as many as they want and we limp along with our two (or maybe four) sets.
I do miss the frenzy of ordering the 25th sets but I can get over it

Im sure the price will be the same like fox said.
I hate the 1 month ordering period though. This years was a disaster in terms of how long it took to get the sets and the large amounts of canceled orders. Guess the mint learned nothing

Hey Basebal,
How do you think the sales of the new sets should be handled? Just curious......

I think they should just set a reasonable limit and leave it at that. 200 or 250k would be more than enough for everyone that wanted to order it to do so judging from last years sales and you wouldnt have to wait months to get it. The mint also wouldnt lose out on over 4 million in sales as people cancel orders over the course for whatever reason.
They point to 2011 as why they do this yet the reason so many people wanted that one was because of the low mintage. You lower demand with the unlimited mintage. It was just a debacle all around imo

I would agree with that....the only reason some sets are getting a price bump is because of the crappy quality of the S Mint thus creating a paucity of 70 sets...obviously there is no demand for the raw sets when they are STILL available for right about issue price

Very good point about them still selling for issue price. It seems that a large percentage of the sets were bought with the sole intention of resale from how easy they are to find. The quality issues certainly dont help, but it seems from a pure collecting standpoint the demand was actually significantly lower than the final sales number

The high volume dealers determine the market and the normal collector is either a victim or a benefactor in their game. They buy MANY hundreds of sets and their profit margin come from the 70 graded sets with the lesser grades being a wash. With these sets the numbers of 70's didn't work out to plan so they dumped the raw and 69 sets to get their money back eliminating any hope for the normal Joe collector to see ANY value.
It will be interesting to see how the 2013 sets play out. Other than quality I can't see it being any different...dealers will over saturate the market with their thousands of sets and it will be a replay of 2012...or as Yogi once said "It's deja vu all over again"

Does anyone besides me collect these (and other sets) just because we like them? I buy them not caring what the mintage is, as I don't plan to sell mine. Since I'm not selling mine, I don't care if the value goes up or not. I don't care what the percentage of 70's is, as I hate slabs for anything other than guaranteeing a coin is genuine. The mint has changed the rules in my favor so that I can get a set direct without fighting mega-dealers, flippers, investors and stackers. I say GREAT! I don't care how many people get mad that they aren't going to double or triple their money in two months. I don't care how many orders get canceled. I just want two sets for my collection (one to keep as a set on display, one to break up and put in an album) I AM A COLLECTOR!

In fact, I'm going to go change my signature line to reflect that.

@jgfindring I agree and I am too a COLLECTOR. I consider the American Silver Eagle the silver dollar of our era and my set is complete excepting the 1995 w. When the anniversary sets came out I bought one of each for my continued collection. I have no graded ASE's and cannot even see a difference from a 69 to a 70 coin.

Quote: I AM A COLLECTOR! I don't care if the value is going to go up, down or sideways! I agree you are a collector and there are a lot of similar collectors out there. There are also collectors that DO collect slabbed ASE's and some are proud of their great registry collections...some collect MS69's and some PF70's. The definition of "collector" resides in the mind of the person collecting the coins and includes ALL different types.. ...and they need someone to sell them that PCGS or NGC PF70 First Strike/Early Release from the San Fran Set (for example)

The only significant difference I can think will happen is assuming the quality is better the 70s will have less of a premium as there will be more. Other than that I fully expect a glut of these on the after market again if dealers dont back away from their order numbers

After what has happened with the 2012 set, the dealers might be a little more cautious when it comes to ordering extreme amounts of the 2013 set. Then again they could go hog wild and take their chances. It's a big game to play. :)

The month that these sets were available was just not a good coin budget month for us. But, likely because of the dealer " glut ? " , we were able to get our set for $170 at a show in Oct. I have to say, I love my MS 70 coins , but I also would have hated to have to pay double or triple the release price of the OPG set, just because I wasn't one of the first 100K to order a set.

The other thing I was thinking that may happen instead of rolling back orders back theyll just get more orders graded after seeing the lack of a market for the raw sets with all that were out there
