How much would you bid on this nice Indian?

It is nice, XF-maybe low AU. It has corrosion and some rim bruises. The pic is deceiving, either with a flash or it's a scan so the actual color is unknown, it may be cleaned. Because I don't know what the coin really looks like I would probably say 20-30 bucks. If it's original, you did good, if not, your still OK, unless the true color is way off. If I was interested in this coin I would send a message to the owner to see if I could get a feel for the true color and originality.

This coin looks like a low AU. Numismedia lists a price from $60-$65. However, as Upstate suggests, sometimes it is difficult to evaluate a coin from a picture. If there are problems then I would think the price would be lower. Another good source for prices is completed listings on ebay. Search for coins of similar grade and condition. That will give you an idea what the market is willing to pay for a coin for a given grade.

A brand new guy here, trying to learn. I see the rim bruise, is the corrosion you speak of the dark stuff I see around the lettering?

Photos are not really that good. Perhaps they could be trying to mask a cleaning as well the issues that upstate mentions.

AU details. Pass, this coin appears to have altered surfaces.

Where is the picture of the reverse of this coin? If there isn't one in the listing definitely pass on the coin as it probably has more severe issues than the obverse. Ed ANA LM-3175

Well, I did pass on this one eventually. The seller did posted a reverse pic, which is why I didn't ended up buying the coin (I liked the obverse). Well, here it is. What a shame .

Since no one else has answered you it is the dotty looking areas (pitted and raised dots) around the words STATES and AMERICA that leads me to believe it has corrosive surfaces

To each their own, but even if the reverse were ok, I wouldn't purchase it. Not that any other opinion is wrong, just my take.
Even if the reverse were as "nice as the obverse" AU is around 55. That's a good AU, not one w/ issues. So say I can get this one as a "good deal" for 40.
I would get an XF for 40 that was in good shape instead.
That being said, it's just my way of looking at it, not necessarily the right way.

If you're really serious about nice Indians, stick to coins graded by PCGS, NGC or ANACS and begin to study what makes a coin original and how to detect cleaning. If buying raw, start with common date coins so the mistake don't cost as much. The obverse of the above coin looks cleaned to me and not one I would add to a collection.
