I think the more general the better- you have to be careful not everyone collects Romans, or a specific kind of Greek.

Colleagues of war would be cool, you can go a lot of different directions, with that. You can always do - your first coin. That would be interesting to see how everyone started out.

Congrats and thanks for running WC.
I have a couple of thoughts -
I think we should start using the forum time (whatever it is? EST?) in the top right of the screen for deadlines etc. Switching between GMT and US times can get a bit confusing. If we settle on 'forum time' and have cut offs at midnight or maybe 7pm depending if the 'runner' is from the US or Europe.
I would also like to see the subjects be well thought out. Its Christmas so coins from within St Nicks life is IMHO a very good subject, reflected by the number of participants. Its topical, interesting, educational and broad meaning lots of people can enter. Subjects like 'best hat' don't tend to inspire many to enter.
Finally and a bit of an after thought, does anyone know if the 'poll' facility could be used to help us out totals wise? Might have to head to the test forum and play around for a bit.

Yes great Idea Poll it!....AH I see you edited Bobby...totals wise I don't think so seeing as though the winner is a calculated weighted average of number of gold, silver and bronzes of different point values. Maybe it can be done with some creative thinking. Hum... An excel spread sheet might be able to do it better. So have we picked a topic, or a person. Hey Dionysos, in the fine Roman fashion you should name your successor...

Just a thought- with the new year and the fact this will be smackdown XXX we should play on the XXX and do wine and liquor on ancient coins.

I don't think anyone wants to step up to the plate. Any takers out there in the crowd?

Is there a list of previous subjects posted somewhere?
I for one have missed many of the original smackdowns since I wasn't collecting (though glancing at such threads is probably what sparked my interest to start collecting) others I didn't enter as I didn't have a coin meeting the criteria and a couple I just didn't get a chance to log in before they were started and finished.
The next smackdown could be a stevex6 memorial smackdown ^^ I am not sure what criteria that would involve though since he single handedly tried to deplete worlds marketplace of every coin going. I am sad to see him gone since there seemed to be no malice in anything I saw him post and he always brought enthusiasm and humour to the forum.

He livened up things here and I'm also sorry to see him go. I didn't see anything offensive in any of his posts.

What about the coins of people who suffered damnatio memoriae or exile. A lot more people than you originally think. Quite topical -
