I like standing liberty's, but don't have enough money to do a UNC set, so I am doing VG - VFs.

Anyone have any thoughts for someone who wants to start an SLQ collection? All advice appreciated!

A very attractive set can be had in VF 35 - to XF 45 Below 35 I feel the wear impedes the visual of the design.
Take your time - my 1st set took me 6 years to complete and I never found the 27-S that I liked. I did an AU 55+ set the first time.
Also buy coins without the scooped out head effect. Be fussy. The fussier you are, the easier it is to sell when the time comes.
Remember, coins from 1917 to 1924 [ Ty 2 ] have weaker dates than those 1925-1930. Its all because the dates were raised on the Ty 2's and recessed on the Ty 3's.

The head is concave - not convex. It looks like someone took a spoon and carved 3/4's of the head out. I don't have one - but will find one for you to compare. They are usually priced at Grey Sheet Ask Here is as good a FH as you'll likely find... ![Anyone-Working-On-An-SLQ-Collection-[-1916-1930-]-?](http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad309/mfhayesatcomcastnet/Standing%20Liberty%20Quarters/237175a3.jpg) I have to do some digging for the scooped out heads.

Here is an example of a scooped out head.
High end Key Date - has no eye appeal for me: Image too large - off to Photobucket - later !!

I ran into a good friend at FUN and we had dinner a few nights together - each night with different collectors. First night, I introduced two "High Roller" Barber Half Collectors [ one is # 2 on NGC and the other is # 3 ] and neither one knew of each other. Second night - another group - but one friend has been working on a FH set of SLQ's. He just upgraded his 1919-S. He had Todd of BluCCPhotos image his newp. Needless to say, its stunning. ![Anyone-Working-On-An-SLQ-Collection-[-1916-1930-]-?](http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad309/mfhayesatcomcastnet/Standing%20Liberty%20Quarters/1919-SQuarterPC64FH_zpsbf2078a5.jpg)

I really have never found one. Its got to be the worst struck date of the entire series. Here's the one I had in my last set: { PCGS 64 } ![Anyone-Working-On-An-SLQ-Collection-[-1916-1930-]-?](http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad309/mfhayesatcomcastnet/Old%20SLQ%20Collection/0883b64f.jpg)
