I'm wondering if this is familiar : looks like 5/5 and then there's this large dot next to it. Any ideas. Is it fairly normal?

There are at least ten different 5/5 1945 George VI fifty cent coins.... The mint reported that forty two reverse dies were used, so your chance of finding a 5/5 is about one in four.... Nice Coin.
