I agree with mds308 100%... I don't care how big of a shop/store it is... That coin comes through the door and is handed to you for an opinion and your not gonna forget it for some time.. They might see TONS of coins but I'd be surprised if a 1889cc came through there door often at all... Even "high end" stores... They might not "bat an eye" at it but a few weeks later they'd for sure remember it, especially one in that condition.
I also agree with mds308 that they just want to mind their own buisness and not get brought into the mix..

So I guess when I sent the link to my pics to ANACS it must have sent a mobile version of the site since I was using my phone at the time I sent the email... I resent the link from my desktop comp. So I'm still waiting to hear back. On a side note... I remembered I had acquired an acquaintance a few months back. Lets just say he holds a position that can possibly help me out. I have informed him of the situation and all the details about it. He's going to look into it and get back to me. The wait continues.

I will say if that is an added mint mark it is by far the most convincing I have ever seen. Will be very interested to see a TPG opinion on this coin
Rest in Peace

The more I look at this coin the more I think it's an authentic 1889 with the CC mint mark added. The C's look like altered O's and the location of second C is right between two known locations in the vertical attitude.

Rob, I wish you luck in recovering the money you spent on this if indeed it is not genuine.

Called up ANACS earlier today on my lunch break. Paul from ANACS is apparently at the FUN show, hence he did not reply. Spoke with Shawn and ended up sending pics to his email. He had 2 graders check out the pics. Here's the conclusion they came to and I quote....

"Two graders looked at your pictures and one gave an opinion that she believes your mint mark, CC, has been been added outside the mint. The other grader's first inclination is the coin looks "wrong" which also infers the added mint mark. The quality of the pictures are not great though, and these above opinions are of course solely based on these pictures and by no means are a definitive answer. If you have any interest in sending us your coin(s) and receiving our official opinion, please feel free to reach out and ask any quetions in regards to how that can get done."

So my next action was to contact the seller....

Via text I sent this statement....

"I talked with the grading company and solely based on the pics I sent them, 2 graders that looked at the pics both came to the same conclusion.... Looks like possible added mint mark. Now they said that was based off of the pics they reviewed and that I could send it in to verify 100% for certain whether it's Fake or Real.... What say you to this?"

The reply..

"You should send it in"

So I say...

"Okay, so if I send it in and they verify their suspicions to be true... Then what?"

Sellers reply

"REFUND"

Talk about trying to get a read on this whole ordeal. Either they truly believe it to be REAL or they've got to be a real bad criminal/scammer...

I mean, if you were going to scam someone would you still be reachable after that? I wouldn't. I'd use a fake number and leave no paper trail or anyway way of finding me.

But hey, they said they'll give me a refund...

Guess we'll see...

I am gonna send it to ANACS. Let them check. Then we'll know 100% and no stones left unturned. I have to see what procedure is involved in sending it out correctly.

Considering even the graders couldnt take a look at it and say yea its fake, I doubt this person is a scammer from the sounds of it. Seems at worse they were just as fooled by the coin as everyone else. Of course well have to see how it all plays out but at this point I would lean towards they were selling thinking it was real

Everything you need to know is on the submission form. Print it, fill it out and send it in with a check or CC info for the payment. I would send it registered mail.

If it comes back fake, good luck getting the refund. They sound like they'd be willing.

If it comes back real, if it were me i'd give the seller a little bit more extra cash. Since it was a great deal and they were willing to refund if fake. Just what I would do though.

IMO, sounds like they would give you a refund no problem but what is going to stop them from selling it again as a real one? I think that they will give you your money then just sell it again to another seller that believes it to be real and get money back for it.

I was gonna send in the coin then things came to a halt. Doesn't look like I'll get money back seeing as apparently it's a scam for certain... Check the link... http://tippecanoe.craigslist.org/cl...5645289.html ......... Apparently he's moved on.... Oh, and he's got another 89-cc for sale... http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/c...4085911.html .... Oh well. Waiting to hear back from my acquaintance and whether he has and info on this matter. Case closed.
