Same guy...with another 89-CC? Yeah, what are the odds of the same scenario? Sorry man--I had my suspicions, but was hoping for a better resolution. Maybe you can use their current ad as evidence, they might be able to trace the user? Good luck--hope you get your money back.

Yea, oh well.
I kept all conversations and any/all info I feel relevant in case it goes legal. I have also spoke with my friend seeing if he would be a witness if need be. He said yes.

It would be real easy to set up a sting operation on that current 89 cc craigslist ad. But I know the police wouldn't do anything like that unfortunately :/

There's an idea...it's a counterfeit US coin, after all--doesn't that count to the FBI/Secret Service? For example, I remember a guy in Cali who was selling faked Morgans by slicing and matching up obv/reverse to make a "rare" coin, then putting back into a PCGS slab and selling to dealers and on CL. I remember the police finally caught up with him. I would think if enough cheated collectors contact the police, they might follow through.

I was thinking the same thing as DVCollector... If its illegal to sell unmarked counterfeit coins as real ones something should be done.. It should be fed time! & I agree a sting on the guy would be great! "Ya, I wanna buy it meet here"... Arrested with a counterfeit coin in hand... Do the Feds really not crack down on this at all? It would be sooooo easy to catch this guy if they just tried... I live close to the NY line... I'm almost tempted to respond to the add and beat this dude... What a POS! "kicking a dead scammer" You should email/call him in a week or 2 and tell him you sent it in and it came back fake, just to see what he says... I'm really sorry to hear all of this rob, you seem like a great person and do not deserve this! It's really a shame there's people like this out there. Wow.. Ya, I'm really sorry

If the other ad is correct that he is doing this around the country and quite often the Secret Service actually would probably be interested. Local police probably wont do anything since its not an easy case for them to prove, to easy to just say he thought it was real

No offense if anyone here are police, but I just don't have faith anymore.
My car got broken into and robbed at my old house. I was mad but whatever. Then the next week the same people robbed my wifes car and also like 10 other cars in my neighborhood. We actually lost a lot of valuables. We were sneaky and knew they'd come back so we didn't contact police yet. They came back the next week so we were sneaky and watched them park at 2am and get out wearing all black and with flashlights. We got their license plate number and car description. They ended up using my wifes credit card at the gas station down the street which has credit sales records and cameras. We told the olice all this evidence but they didnt want to do anything about it. I'm sure the thieves are robbing other neighborhoods now.

OK, that sucks. Definitely had me fooled.
The feds would not beintersted in a single incidence. However, someone might possibly actually be up to doing their job for once(I know, it is a loooooong shot for a cop to actually want to do a real investigation requiring actual police work, but you never know) if this guy is running an ongoing scam like this. Can't hurt to give the secret service a ring.

If this continues, one day he will eventually cross the wrong person and get pumped full of lead. Quote: I live close to the NY line... I'm almost tempted to respond to the add and beat this dude... All they have to do is check with that dealer and see if this guy ever came in. 2) Talk to any coin collector/ enthusiast that knows morgans. I may be a noob but even I know that the possibility of having not 1. not 2 but now looks like 3 1889-cc's... NOT LIKELY. Oh and ALL ARE apparently XF? Definitely not. If I was a cop this would be an open and shut case. My 89 is fake... So get the other 2 checked and see those are fakes too. Also couple that with all the discussions and texts I have... What more evidence is needed? Quote: I think it's reasonable to assume that the seller is reading this thread as well Why do you say that? For a local cop not really. What local law did he break fraud maybe but thats about it. The coin shops wont want to get tied up in the middle and even so in a court of law thats just one opinion. The police arent going to have the coin graded ect. Its a lot of time and effort on their part and the prosecutors part who as far as theyre concerned have more important things to do. Same reason why they dont ticket or arrest people for every single thing possible.

Since it seems he's a pro scammer, and as such he would be familiar with the different coin forums and would be interested to know what's coming for him. If I were you, I wouldn't publicly post your next move here. .

I get it... That's the reason I don't get into discussions on politics, government, authorities, etc.. It's all a joke. Quote: Since it seems he's a pro scammer, and as such he would be familiar with the different coin forums and would be interested to know what's coming for him.
