I was looking at a ton of ebay listings for unsearched penny rolls both for Canadian cents and US. All of these guys advertise potential treasure by showing the 2 ends of the roll. The ends typically have VDBs, Mercury dimes, George the V and so on. My question is, has anyone ACTUALLY found anything worth the~ $30-$50 spent on these rolls? Or are these rolls a scam and the seller just puts the "potential" coins on the ends and fills the rolls with random, but albeit worthless coins... Edited by RoyalSilver 01/06/2013 11:18 pm

I wouldn't buy them. I truly believe they have all been searched. In today's world with all of the provided resources to extract information, why wouldn't you look? Lets not forget....They had to get in the roll somehow....in one way or another....They have all been searched.

there just saying that to get you to purchase the coins. I buy coins that have never been opened you can tell if a roll is from the 50's verses a roll that someone altered to look old

good to see there are people who think like I do. I'm was always skeptical about buying these, it it were me, and I had 1000 rolls at home...i'd definitely search though all of them. Also, how many "unsearched" rolls are there that have both ends showing rare coins? It seems like every single roll for sale on ebay has that...thats not what happens in reality, at least not that often

When I see promotions like this I recall what Mark Twain once said: "the first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year"

I was looking at the feedback of one seller and I noticed something funny. The seller of these "unsearched" rolls had bought a bunch of Indian Head cents (VG-EF condition) and he also bought a large lot of "unsearched" Wheat penny rolls. He then had a lot of these so called unsearched rolls for sale...with, guess what? Wheat penny ends!! haha...ohh boy

There are such things as unsearched rolls, but they do not show up on ebay with a description of 'UNSEARCHED PENNY ROLLS!!11! GUARANTEED 1909 VDB MAYBE AN S, GOLD COINS ON BOTH ENDS!!1!' :)

I had bought some years ago from a lady on ebay. She never promised anything spectacular. I was getting 20+ Indian heads per roll. And lots of mint marks so I didn't mind. I haven't bought recently.
