I'd almost say someone did the gouging on the 1 side, which shows through on the otherside? Or could be a grease strike thru? Either way a very interesting coin...Can't wait to hear what the experts have to say!!

A shattered die would leave holes in the die, meaning raised area on the coin. My first thought was a lamination.

What I'm seeing is at least nine impressions made on the reverse that are the same shape. Looks to me like the damage was done hammer-and-chisel style, and the force caused the bulging on the obverse. Can't see it being anything other than PMD.

That is exactly what I saw as well.They are ALL the exact same size and shape(some overlapping others). I don't know that it was a chisel, but something was definately hammered onto this coin.

There actualy is not bulging on the obverse kinda wierd ill post some better pictures later on
