Hello, I had always wondered how people are able to obtain uncut sheets of notes? How would they legally be able to get taken off the press before being cut, and then sold privately?

Another question I have is, people pay a lot of money for folded (butterfly bills as I think they are called) or mis-cut error notes. Couldn't one just buy a sheet of uncut notes, cut them wrong on purpose and claim they are true bank errors? How can you tell the difference?

Thanks! :)

That second question is a great question, I'd love to know that to. To the first question, I think bank of Canada sold the sheets to collectors, but I'm not sure.

The serial number series of the uncut sheets are known, so buyer beware on those so called errors.

yes, all sheet bills serials were recorded. usually mis-cut errors can be classified as genuine when it's not from a sheet.

My LCS had a 4X10 uncut sheet of 1986 $2 for $165 (just over twice face value). I really want to hang this in my office and see all the robins unfortunately I decided to go home and research them more and it sold... Seemed like a good deal to me (even without a frame) what are you thoughts on this?

Uncut sheets of the Robin twos are pretty common. You should be able to find some on ebay for under 2x face if you surf for a while. I sold a sheet of 12 a couple of years back.....went for around $30 I think.
