Peter4805 Pillar of the Community Canada 987 Posts	Posted 01/11/2013 5:14 pm It's a little thicker than a genuine coin and there is no edge reeding. Maybe the blank edge is where they planned to stamp it with 'Made in China'. However, if you were buying it based on grainy, auction house photos of the surfaces (like I did) it could fool you. Thankfully I only had a minimal investment. If anyone is interested in the study of counterfeit coins I'd be happy to donate it for just the cost of postage. Otherwise it has a date with my hacksaw. tfred Pillar of the Community Canada 627 Posts	Posted 01/11/2013 5:21 pm I would investigate a little further before you give it up. The smooth and thicker rims could have been caused by many reasons over the last 100+ years. I would wait and have someone look at the other tell tale signs of a good fake. Other than the rims which looks PMD, it looks real to me. Report this Post to the Staff

glenzy1 Pillar of the Community Canada 1554 Posts	Posted 01/11/2013 6:02 pm Counterfeiters will usually counterfeit coins of significant value, the 1899 dime would only trend for a few dollars in that grade and would not be worth the time/effort for a counterfeiter.
