I have a friend who sells on ebay, as I do; and he told me he had a buyer pay for an expensive auction item via paypal, the seller (my friend) did same day shipping with delivery confirmation. As soon as the buyer received shipping confirmation he reversed the paypal payment and it was sucked back out of my friends paypal account. I don't know what the final outcome was, but he now insists on keeping his paypal account at next to nothing and won't ship anything until he transfers the payment out of paypal and into his bank and has confirmation of that. This delays shipping by several days.

Can this really happen? Also I have heard that delivery confirmation carries no weight with paypal, you must get a signature, that so as well?

appreciate your responses
Rest in Peace

Bob, others may have different viewpoints and experiences, but I don't know of any means by which a buyer can recover a payment except via filing a PayPal dispute nor do I know of any PayPal mechanism for canceling an auction payment, at least in this time span. I don't believe this can be done in a single day. I think we need some more details on your friend's experience.

For shipping anything of any value (I have my own cutoff of $50 and up), I include Signature Confirmation at my expense. I don't believe PayPal will settle a dispute based on Delivery Confirmation only.

I don't think your friend is telling you the whole story. You cannot reverse a Paypal payment on a whim.

DC is sll you need for $249.99 and under. SC for $250.00 and over.

Payment Reversals: If you use PayPal to receive payments, your payment may be subject to reversal if the sender of the payment files a chargeback with their credit card company; reverses a payment made via a direct debit from their bank account; pays with funds obtained improperly (such as a stolen credit card) or files a Buyer Complaint against you with PayPal and you are not able to refute the Buyer Complaint.

Takes days.

Wouldn't be initiated by the payor.

Too soon to file.

I stand by my initial statement that we're not getting the entire story.

Nothing suprises me with Paypal...I have had a few wins against paypals policies by filing a complaint with the banking ombudsman in Australia.
