I don't know these dollars and I also counted 13 stars. Educate us and tell us where you find the other two stars. The slab says 15 stars so I would have Googled it to find out where the other two stars are.

I suggest giving him his money back and selling it to a more worthy buyer. This guy is obviously not good enough to give you money right? The nerve of this guy. And you obviously being so educated, told the buyer that he should be looking for the hidden stars which are completely obvious.

Quote: I don't know these dollars and I also counted 13 stars. Educate us and tell us where you find the other two stars. Absolutely. The 13-star version has normal-sized clouds on the reverse, and only the very tips of the outermost stars in the top arc penetrate those clouds. With the 15-star version, original Mint work has enlarged those clouds, and the outside pair of stars is almost completely engulfed by them, only visible at their very tips barely sticking out at the bottom. You can only see that under magnification, but one tiny tip at each end is clearly visible in the seller's images. That is what a 15-star reverse looks like.To anyone who knows this issue, the size of those two outside clouds, and the number of clear stars in each of the two full arcs, are individually and immediately definitive as to which reverse type it is. You don't even need to look for those star tips, making the 15-star variety identifiable almost into a basal state of wear. Understand my frustration now?

The buyer is clueless, and needs to start from the beginning...reading a few books might help. Open a counter dispute with mere facts. He'll lose.

I responded to the case. I also called ebay. They said the people that will rule on the case will consist of someone that works at NGC. This makes me feel very confident. My only real concern is what feedback this guy might leave me. I guess I'm in for a stressful week to come.

You can sometimes get feedback removed depending on whats left. Regardless I would go ahead and add them to your blocked buyer list just to avoid it in the future

If you win the dispute - and winning this one is akin to placing a bet today on the outcome of last November's election - any untoward Feedback will be removed at your request. Make sure you respond to that Feedback first, though - your response will probably stay.

^ Agree.
Even if it's not removed, the neg feedback, you can leave a response to his neg. That's where you can expose him for what he is.

Okay, I see them. Seems people are counting the obvious stars on the obverse or reverse. I count 13 stars on the reverse and see two partial stars sticking out on the furthest right and left clouds on the reverse.

A little bit of knowledge goes a long way. People who do not know about the reverses for this coin won't know how to tell the difference, obviously like this buyer. And an uneducated buyer can be a seller's worst nightmare. Thank you for that in-depth explanation SSDD, I learned something new today

This is bugging me. The buyer bought the coin - but the buyer could not count BEFORE the auction was over? You know, because ebay never did develop that email system they were working on several years ago.

Is that right, the stars are covered by the right and left clouds? The star sticking out from the cloud to the left is very obvious. It isn't like this coin is raw, PCGS determined this is a 15 star variety. I think the buyer like many of us don't know what this is.

Seriously - he/she didn't e-mail you BEFORE the auction was over?

Yea the left one isn't that hard to see, the right one is pretty hidden but you can see a tip. Or you could just read the PCGS label and then actually put some effort into making sure that they put the wrong label in as opposed to assuming their wrong lol. It sounds like the OP probably could have done a better job explaining it to the buyer, but the buyer definitely just saw something they liked and went for it

I learned something new today too! Thanks Dave.
Perhaps buyer remorse or looking for some money back...
