Not so long ago you could buy bulk lots of PR69 D Cam coins on Teletrade for a couple of bucks a piece though lots are no longer as many and no longer cheap. People would make bulk submissions to PCGS and then sell off the non PR70 coins for less than the grading cost most of the time. I would not be surprised to see the reserve on this lot at $5000 or less. Yes its an impressive collection but not actually worth much in today's market. Who knows in the future but with high population numbers its a bigger gamble than I would be willing to take that I could turn a profit.

Quote: I hope you realize I mean no disrespect to you or this thread No need at all to apologize. One of the draw backs of an anonymous forum is that you cannot see my face light up with a smile every time someone offers a dissenting or opposing opinion. I collect modern slabbed coinage and unique proof sets, it is what I know and what I like. And there is a definite up turning of noses on this site regarding slabs and proofs on this site, but I never tire of hearing these opinions and why people think that. I am older than you and know what I collect will never be valued in my lifetime. But I also collect with my 8 and 11 year old sons and always hear " ....if I only had the foresight to collect these when they were worth nothing.....? or " ....if my Dad or Granddad had only put away all those 1921 Peace dollars, mercs and WLHs ......" In another 40 years when they are my age, hopefully they can pull out a collection like this and look at all these coins that are in some cases over 80 years old and are in near perfect condition. One of the reasons I love this forum is because for every ten people that drool over a collection, there are ten people that say " I don't like or collect those and this is why " That is what makes for a great forum, healthy debate and differing opinions.

Quote: Is this a picture of your current collection? Take it out of the boxes so we can see it. No, not even close to the size of my neighborhood let alone my collection. Explaination inserted into the post in question; page 2 entry 10.

noahs,
Your math is correct. At IndianEagles rate of 36.50 each ($36,500 for the lot) I would be impressed with the seller, not the buyer.
denco7,
The time spent with the kids is far greater than the value of the coins.

Quote: there is a definite up turning of noses on this site regarding slabs and proofs on this site I disagree; My guess is more people here like slabbed coins than raw, I'm a minority, although I believe grading services are valuable for determining, with a guarantee, that a coin is genuine. Proofs are another story. I think people dislike them because they are historically a bad investment, but I love them and will continue to build my set.

"The time spent with the kids is far greater than the value of the coins." AMEN! I do not turn my nose up at slabs. I DO turn my nose up at coins slabbed to make them look desirable when in fact they are a questionable investment. An 09-S VDB or a St. Gaudens MS-65 by a major TPG - necessary. A common, modern proof, not so much. Let the healthy debate continue.

NN, if that is a Firefly reference, I salute you!
Yikes, that lot is times the money. You do not get to specify the dates. My strategy would be to pick the lowest price MS64 one and use that price (says the chick who just raised her bid on a current auction three times...)
EDITED for spelling (there are days I wonder if Earl42 is laughing hysterically at my posts before I edit them...)

Is it me or did the top bidder overpay by approximately 4000 dollars ? Just kidding. I guess that's less than 6 dollars each. Set up at flea markets and sell them for 10 -20 each.
