Careful, everyone's total distain for, any coin that is not 100 years old, in a slab and all of us who collect these, is starting to show through again. Hard to believe that in seventy years some of these coins will be 100 years old and deemed worth collecting ........ if we take them out of the slabs of course ....... I'm thinking they have to have at least a $10,000 reserve on these.

I'd be alot more inerested if it was 100 PR70 ASE's....just my preference I don't see that lot as valuable to what I like to collect...

I don't know how deep a discount certain people get when grading in bulk but the grading alone must've cost over ten grand.
It's awe inspiring to look at the pictures but since I don't want to go into the coin selling business, looking is as far as it goes.

I'll bet the original owner had PR70's. I'll bet they were pulled to be sold separately.

Had the halves, quarters and dimes been silver, then we'd have a . denco7, Please don't confuse age with value. There are coins that are less then 20 years old that are worth more than 100 year old coins. Just like in antiques and collectibles. Just because it's old doesn't make it valuable. Supply and demand.

If I had the cash, I'd definitely buy for resale if I could get a good price. Wouldn't waht 1,000 coins, some of which are multiples.

Quote: All I could imagine is somebody got all excessive/compulsive about a coin graded 70, to make the big "profit". Instead they got a thousand 69's and grading companies are laughing all the way to the bank, as it goes.
Someone has a good amount of 70s too. Theyre tight with 70s but theres almost no chance of 1000 coins and no 70s from a lot, that lot had to be bigger than that when submitted.

Whether you like the coins or not, whether you agree with the slabs, grades, choices or not the collection of all those coins in PCGS PF69 is impressive. Imagining the back story is fun. Did the dealer assemble this from his stock ? Did someone crack open thousands of silver and clad proof sets, then send them all to PCGS to assemble a PF70 collection and they are selling off the " culls " or did someone assemble this collection from already graded slabs ? Were they assembled over many years or did the guy just have deep pockets and bought them all within a few months to sell . The fun is in the speculation and the sheer volume of the collection not the value.

I imagine individually most of these are worth somewhere between $3 to $5 retail on ebay, any incentive for buying is definately resale but it could be a bit of a gamble at the $3000+ the auction is currently at

denco7, I hope you realize I mean no disrespect to you or this thread. We all have opinions with different tastes. We are here because of a common interest in collecting coins but this can be broken down into a hundred categories. I collect for investment purposes plus I enjoy the hobby. I have numerous 1 - 20 dollar coins. But I try to stay focused on 50 dollar plus coins. Unless this hoard can be had for a steal, I just feel that it wastes time and money. Earlier this week I bought a 1972 (or was it 1974) 40 percent silver Ike dollar slabbed PCGS PR69DCAM. I paid only 10 dollars and I didn't have to buy 999 more to get it. Had the seller had 999 more of these I would have taken them all. I don't know the sellers reserve so I can only assume it will be around 5 - 10 dollars each. Like I said earlier in this thread, I can think of a lot of other killer coins I could buy for that kind of money with the odds of them Increasing in value over a shorter period of time. I'm 52 and I would like my investment to appreciate faster than the 30 years it would take to make a dent it his grouping. On a brighter side, you have posted a thread that generated a lot of interest with good healthy debate. So no matter what the outcome of this auction, you are a winner on this forum.
