Hi guys,

After reading this thread I just had to sign up and add my thoughts. I know exactly which coin shop you are talking about simply based on the experiences described!

I bought a few coins there in my early days and when I look back on them now I can see that they are over graded.

My final visit there was about 1 and a half years ago when I went in asking for some high grade shillings. I was looking for Gem. The guy then grumbled and asked me why I wanted such a high grade. I explained that I wanted the best for my collection and he went on to ask me in a very patronizing tone how long I planned on taking to finish my set. I was a little taken aback by this question because as far as I can tell most of the finest collections took a lifetime to put together. If I could just waltz into his shop and complete an entire collection in one day what would be the point? Where would the fun and satisfaction be in that? Personally I love looking at 'perfect' coins that have beaten the odds and survived so many years.

He tried to tell me that I should stop wasting my time and collect the proofs instead. I told him that my interest was in circulation strikes, thanked him for his time and walked out. Every time walked in there they have made me feel intimidated and belittled. I have not been back since that day. I also agree that their shop is well presented but they don't have any pre-decimal on display and look down at you when you ask to view them.

I must admit that after my experiences at this shop and after meeting a few similarly grumpy characters at the Melbourne ANDA show I have lost a little faith in dealers. Of course I have met some nice dealers at the show as well.

to CCF!

Yet another negative testimony.

Whilst it makes me feel a little better than it wasnt just me it also sickens me to hear that so many people have been put off by this bloke.

I'll be heading to melbourne again in a couple months and I'm tossing up going back and playing up to it, maybe having a little fun with him.

Ive got a bit of time to come up with something good.

I wont come straight out and tell him what I think but i'll p him off for a bit I think.

Maybe get a wad of cash show him I'm interested and have a bit of money to spend. Then maybe i'll spend and hour putting things aside before just walking out whilts he's mid sentence.
