1942 Jefferson Nickel - Mint Error Help... Please?

shmitt55 New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 02/06/2013 7:23 pm Hello all, I'm trying to learn coin collecting, but hit a wall today. I worked for an armored car company for a few years, occasionally running a small coin sorter. I came across a 1942 nickel that wouldnt feed through. Being a WWII history buff, I set it on my desk not thinking much of it. When I quit I brought it home with me and realized that the reason it wouldnt feed through was because of a minting issue... The coin is sunk in on both sides creating a rather large lip. I have attached pictures, but any help is appreciated. The one pic is of a newer nickel side by side with the 42. Thanks in advance. shmitt55 New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 02/06/2013 7:37 pm On the front everything appears smooth inside of the lip, on the back there is another slight edge before the lip, but no apparent force damage.everything looks smooth Report this Post to the Staff

You can see where the chain loop eyelet used to be before it was bent or snipped off. You can try prying the ring off or the coin out of the ring with a tiny screwdriver. Or at least bent it enough so that the ring can be snipped off. Report this Post to the Staff
