Oh Boy. I hate self checkouts and boycott them even at the public library solely because they take away jobs (feel free to keep your opinoions about Walmart and American job outsourcing to yourself :)) as I try to do my part whenever I can. HOWEVER, ask the local Walmart here about that guy that comes in and spends $20-$40 in halves a week on Diet Coke ( Walmart has it for $1.35 a 2 liter while the local grocery store with the coinstar machine wants $2 a 2 liter) You do the math.

Quote: Our Walmarts have self checkout, but most of the time you get behind someone who thought it would be better to use self checkout than stand in line... but... they are so slow at doing it that they end up making a longer line at the self checkout! Same thing by me. I've tried those a few times but as stated above, usually takes longer than a cashier. And since so many mess things up there, they have to have an attendant there all the time helping. And as to using Half Dollar coins, no longer can get them at most of the banks by me.

I bet they all accept 90% silver ones. Who wants to try THAT? jk... My Walmart's machines take half dollars just fine.

I've used halves several times in self checkouts. I like them, they are usually much easier and have shorter lines than regular lines. I've even successfully used 2 dollar bills before.

I don't know you guys but I don't want to expend the half s to see if a machine accept halves coins , those coins are more valuable than use a debit card ,paper money or checks , if you think just in the metal value...

I tried Kennedy halves at the self checkout at new Walmart in Land O Lakes Florida last week at it took them just fine. I thought it was a little slow though. It took the machine about 10 secs each to accept the halves but it did anyway. I believe they are the same machines described by DNA above.

As long as the halves are run-of-the-mill clad halves, you're perfectly fine spending them. They're worth about 10 cents in metal value.

The local Walmart's in my area don't have self check out. To tell the truth I didn't think Walmart's had any self check out because I've seen them. I too prefer self check out. It's usually faster and easier.
