I have been going through a bunch of modern sixpences and I came across one 1955 sixpence with this marked on the sleeve:
"I of SIX to tooth"

What does it mean?

I am not exactly sure what I am looking for when looking at other Sixpences I can't figure out the difference.

Is it maybe not having that "I of SIX to tooth" at all?

Sometimes I am just a victim of own laziness.
I occasionally recycle 2x2's to house a different coin, and the label does not necessarily describe the replaced coin inside accurately. This problem can arise when the two coins are similar.

It means the I points at one of the rim beads rather between rim beads. But sel may be right too.

Mr T :

That gives me a better idea now, still I am a bit baffled, would you say this is one of those:

And here is another 1955 that is supposed to have space on I of SIX but I am a bit clueless:

I haven't seen this variety listed before. I wonder which is scarcer.

I've rarely seen cupro-nickel sixpences with so much verdigris.

Thanks cointosser, you've got me going through my current sixpence lot from my junkbox

Safe to say this isn't rare, first four I checked I had 2 of each type.

Hmm ok, not so rare then, what about the space between I and X on the other coin, is that something considered more rare or not?

I've just received The Identification of British 20th Century Bronze Coin Varieties and The Identification of British 20th Century Silver Coin Varieties from my niece as a belated Xmas present.

The silver book is pretty impressive - detailed explanation of major varieties with photos, notes on minor varieties however there's not much on the rarity of different varieties. Mr Groom says that's because few dealers list these coins except for the very major varieties.

There's a huge amount of varieties for the decimal coinage - far more than I expected.

The first 2 1953 UK crowns I looked at are Obv 1, but I have some more somewhere and I'll check those.
