I travel a lot in the Middle East and the gulf, in my free time I check out the Old Markets in each country hoping to find collectible items as souvenirs or with value items.
Lately I have een buying coins, anything I find might be valuable or maybe looking old enough for my novice eye.
Is it enough to rely on the weight and the Diameter to buy cons? Specially US coins.

Given your location, I would say that weight and diameter are not enough to go by with US coins. I'm sure you see a lot of US silver dollars. Many of those you see are going to be modern forgeries. Some of the forgeries contain some silver. Some will have the correct weight. Most will have hte correct diameter. You especially have to be careful if you are looking at rare and key dates. These are the ones that are most frequently counterfeited.

There are also a lot of silver-dollar size "coins" that have the wrong dates for the series. Before I purchased anything raw, I'd take a lot of time to learn how to spot counterfeits.
