Very nice picture shphaholic. The catalog and website picture of this coin is very horrible. It is a really nice coin when you see it. 8500 is not bad for mintage of first in the series. I think it might be a sleeper. Too many hoarding coins in this series and it got overlooked.

Quote:
Less silver and higher cost = more profit for mint

Really ? Is that the only reason ?

It's just like a bag of chips. The packaging has stayed the same size but the quantity of chips has been reduced year after year. With a 40mm coin it looks like a better value than a 1oz coin. Bigger is better and the average person won't notice and won't care it's not an ounce. Also people don't want to pay tax on coins so a sterling (90% silver) coin is unacceptable and 28g is 90% of one ounce. I hope this does not become a trend.

Isn't it 9999 silver?
The mint moved away from sterling a couple years ago. I'm not saying they never do sterling but its becoming more rare.

Agree. I said:

Meaning that the coin is fine silver, not sterling.

They I added:

and 28g is 90% of one ounce.

Achieving the same effect as having 1oz coin made out of sterling. Same pure silver content.

It's 28 grams of .9999 silver which works out to about the same as a 1 oz coin of 90% silver which is sterling.(.925)

I dislike it. The design is too busy, too modern.

Shopaholic, did you get coin easels online, or did you find a store where you can get them?

This coin is amazing in real life main reason is the finish! The usual 4:1 finish is what most proof coins have this one is the stronger brighter Aluminum oxide finish and its rare the mint decide on that finish as the main one, but they did a great job it's very underrated but I personally hope it doesn't sell out to rise the price!
