I see what RCM is doing e 20 for 20, and now the 100 for 100 silver coins, they are attracting new collectors. And yes, I am aware of the 12 quarters for $3. and other coins being sold at face value. The problem I have with he others is they are available only in Canada. I can buy the 20 for 20 and 100 for 100 coins in the U. S. A recent look at my ancestry shows many migrated from Canada, some from Quebec and some from Nova Scotia, so I do have a great respect for RCM. Some subjects of the coins may well indicate my ancestors way of life. Well, am I correct in new collectors being the motive for face value mint sales?

Bringing new collectors into the hobby is certainly part of the equation for the RCM, but I believe the release of the coins you have listed is also intended to attract established collectors as well. Many existing collectors have flocked to the coins due to their (often) attractive designs and the fact that they don't carry the high premiums that are often associated with NCLT coins.

We're talking about coins with a mintage bigger than 225,000 so in fact everyone is a potential buyer, there are not 225,000 newbies for every release.

The 20 for 20s are awesome and I'm sure those coins did attack a lot of new collectors. I hope the RCM continues this series. Not so sure about $100 for $100.

I think a $50 for $50 coin series would be cool. It's not too expensive and it's not too cheap, it compromises in between for certain new collectors who don't want to overspend.

Didn't someone suggest 1000 for 1000? I certainly can't afford that, but there are people out there who can. Point is, I can see the Mint trying to cater to as many collectors as possible.

It's a great way to appeal to all collectors. Once you buy these face value coins, you can see what other innovative products are available. There is always something for everyone.

Then why do the RCM sell boxes, or almost unlimited numbers to dealers and super mc members?

Quote:Then why do the RCM sell boxes, or almost unlimited numbers to dealers and super mc members? Which boxes RCM does sell? I think, you meant, that RCM sends the boxes with subscriptions...otherwise I would like to know, how to buy original box from RCM. Added: In my opinion, not the availability to buy for face value attracts new (and old collectors), but numismatic item for low cost. The great example for this - latest "Life in the North" circulation packs. I count them as one of the best 2013 items.

The 20 for 20 comes in boxes of 100 coins, just cardboard shipping boxes.

The $20 for $20 is what got me to start collecting pricy numismatic coin. Prior to that, my wife used to be a cashier and she would pick up different quarters and we'll be happy when ever we find one of those silver nickle/dime/quarter or different states quarters. My friend introduced me to $20 for $20 and well that pretty much got me hooked. At first, my budget is coin under $100 but the Two loon coin pushed the limit. Then the Perth map coins and the opal series. As coin become more expensive, I started to look at bullion coins and semi numismatic coins.

I'm not a fan of 20 for 20 or x for x as I see this is only where this is going. Good on the mint if it brings in new collectors which is good for everyone.
