Quote:I believe you were expecting the item to be sold at a higher price, if that is the case you can simply cancel the transaction with the buyer and we would not be taking that against you. Then you may list the item again for the amount that you want. Or if you want to continue with the transaction please communicate with the buyer to arrange the shipment or whatever things that needs to be settled. Whatever concern you have we are always here to listen to your feedback and we will do our best to help you. We appreciate your understanding regarding this concern. Sincerely, Katie Consumer Support PayPal, an ebay Company This coming from "PayPal, an ebay Company" is really troubling. So seller are free to cancel a transaction if the price is too low, as long as PayPal and ebay still get their fee out of it?

I don't care anymore. If it was meant to be, it was meant to be. She obviously had her hopes set she could get more. I'm glad to hear she will get nailed for the 9% ebay fees and cannot have it reversed. I hope this is a good lesson to her.

Drama! In ebay, the seller has very little recourse for a negative feedback. The seller can only report you for breaking rules or being fraudulent. The only recourse the seller has is to block you from bidding on their items. In my opinion, leave a negative feed back, but be truth full and say nothing liable and don't use profanity. This seller deserves a negative. Loosing money is the risk you take with the type of auction she used. If she didn't want to loose money or expected a certain price list your item differently. To much risk listing items for a low start price.

Hi Dooby Rak,
I just left a negative feedback. I stated that seller wanted me to pay with wire transfer and she stated, "worry what goes around comes around". Now people can read about how crooked she really is. What a shame we couldn't work out our differences.

Hi Shopoholic, The only way the seller can recoup their fees is to open an complaint and ask that the buyer and seller didn't reach the sale. In my case, I did complete the sale and had ebay read the comments from the "lovely seller". When I made payment using PayPal and the seller got irritated and used bad karma against me, I requested a refund. Now that the seller couldn't sell her coin set, she can't ask for a refund for ebay fees due to the fact the original complaint was settled plus she used intimidation to back away from the deal. Now she is stuck with paying a $300 bill for ebay listing.

... I hope us replying in this thread did not contribute to this transaction falling apart. All of our replies were warning you of the worst scenario possible, but it seems like in the early messages the seller is just upset the set sold for so low but had then intention to go through with the sale (She is correct in saying that CP won't insure beyond $1000 for private parcels). Whether or not her indignation at your justified worries of fraud is genuine or not we'll never know. In a seller's shoes, it's just as unbearable/aggravating to have an auction go below exception than it is for a buyer to have a good deal cancelled. It takes a lot to bite down and go through with the transaction and certainly will put one on a short fuse.
I wonder if it wouldn't have been a bit different if your reply to her wire request was a simple "i prefer PayPal, here's the payment" and be the gentleman that you are after receiving the coins by sending her a check for fees as offered.

Hi poboxw,
I did offer to pay the 2.9% PayPal after I received the item. I was on high alert when she asked for wire/bank transfer after the auction ended. I ended up leaving a negative feedback and this is the response from her.
Dear rolex-guy,
Couldn't be nice could you , you lied on my feedback just out of spite because you didn't get your own way .. but that's o.k ...remember this word ( OOPS )
What does she mean, "remember this word ( OOPS )? Is this some sort of joke or game?

You have to remember that ebay auctions are legally binding contracts. This has happened a few times with car dealers selling cars on ebay. They refuse to honor the auction price. The buyers can take legal action against the seller. In any auction house if put your item in a no reserve auction and it sells you low, say good bye to your item. In the case of these coins the buyer can do very little. Not worth taking legal action. The best they can hope for is to leave a negative feedback. I hope this seller learned their lesson. This seller got what they deserved. They started the auction at $100 and not long enough. Also they must have know about shipping insurance issues before hand. Why would they offer Canada Economy Shipping for this item. Should have chosen UPS. Over poorly handled auction.

Here's a question... Are you not covered by ebay for the transaction no matter what form of payment is used? Wire, PayPal, money order, cheque..

No. If you send payment other than paypal you can not be guaranteed to recover your funds. Only paypal offers a full refund. It is possible that this person could have taken the money and ran. If you send a money order your only recourse is legal action. ebay will not cover the purchase since there is no proof. Paypal proves payment was sent and that a package was sent. There are still ways around the system, but I would not do a purchase over a $1000 on ebay.

PayPal is the only form of payment that is recommended by ebay and has buyer protection. That protection cores if the buyer doesn't get the item or if the item is not as described. I figure if the seller shipped me the item, she would have done some sort of damage like taking the coins out of the capsule and putting her fingerprints on them. Either way, she had no intention of selling me the coins due to the price. Shocking because she has excellent feedback but I'm not going to jeopardize over $3,000 sending her a wire transfer to save money on her end. That is why I offered her to pay the PayPal fees once I receive the item and it's fully intact I would mail her a cheque. I'll be curious to see what happens to her next when she gets an invoice for $300 from ebay.

@jsinger21 ebay has a strange loop hole in her favor. She can still file a non paying bidder case against you to recover her fees. It won't count against you because of your transaction history, but it will give you another chance to buy the item. If she files a case, pay her and then it will force her to send the item. If she does not send it, you get a refund and the negative comment sticks. If she wins the non paying bidder case, your negative comment is removed and she gets her fees back. The drama may not be over yet.

I want to thank everyone for their opinions. I don't blame anyone for the transaction. If anything, I thank you for your honest feedback which might of resulted in me getting my money back after so much time or worse, my coin set possibly being damaged purposely in one form or another. If the auction would have sold for a higher price, I highly doubt that this "drama" would have occurred.
Unclekim, yes the seller should have done a better job researching shipping and insurance rates. I learned myself that Canada Post won't insure coins over $1,000.
