I remain confused, and have to think we either are talking about two different offers, or maybe the company sends different books to different people who call in. The offer I took part in was as follows. 2008 Red Book, about Page 6 if the pages were numbered. Company is Universal Gold and Bullion. I called and talked to an agent who took down my phone number and credit card information. Then, for my $10 I received a beautiful NGC slabbed 2007 ASE. A few days later I received three books: "Indian Head Qyarter Eagles" "Type II Double Eagles" "Type III Double Eagles." The books, although paperback, were nice and contained pictures and the numismatic history behind the coins pictured. One of the books had a price tage of $29.95. When talking to the agent, I told him I didn't have investment money at this time, and I have yet to get a phone call from the company. So, that was my deal. Are we talking about the same offer?

If you got books in the mail from the NGC offer, there is a good chance that you are actually signed up for some book club or some type of monthly membership.
Be sure to read everything and send back any required cancellation notices.

If you got books in the mail from the NGC offer, there is a good chance that you are actually signed up for some book club or some type of monthly membership. Be sure to read everything and send back any required cancellation notices No, not really. If you read the add it clearly states you will receive other FREE BONUS GIFTS. Then they list them as an approximate value of $200. These are the books, pamphlets, newsleters they send you. All are free. I did that with the 2007 edition of the Red Book and periodically receive such info from them. Now back to whitman's offer. I contacted the publisher Dennis Tucker and asked why the different offers. He explained there are 3 such offers and they are put into all versions of the books at random. Note there is the soft cover, soft cover spiral, hard cover and all have the offer but is placed at random. Also, if you go to the Whitman Web site it is also stated that the 3 different offers are placed in the books at RANDOM. This means had we known everyone would look through the books first and only buy the ones with the best free offer. So if you haven't purchased a Red Book yet and plan to or know someone that will, inform them of the 3 different offers after page 400.

UGB is the name that pops up on my caller id so I am sure we are talking about the same offer. i did get a mag in the mail yesterday but I think it is a catalog to buy coins in. it is called Collectible Coins from New York Mint. i have never heard of this place before but it is possible that it was part of the deal. I just got THE CALL "verifying my information". The offer for the "free" ASE is definitely a hook to get you on the phone for a sales presentation. But I didn't find that they treated me rudely or used an unethical approach. The bottom line is, they are paying $5 a head for a shot at selling you something. Works for me because I get a $15 dollar coin for $10.

BTW.... Received my ASE today. It's a beauty! I only received the one call (so far) so I would say it was worth the trouble.

Mine is spotless. But haven't looped it yet. Sorry you had bad luck with them and the coin. I don't know why they would decide to pester one person over another unless you have an overzealous sales rep or you gave them some sort of idea that you wanted to purchase from them (probably reason #1). Or maybe it's just random bad luck. But thanks for taking one for the team ;)

Well, the vault verification code URBS407 is OK for everone to use to get the 2007 ASE for $10, but here is some interesting reading http://coins.vanosteen.com/Make sure you don't agree to anything and watch your CC statements closely afterwards (which everyone should be doing anyway).

it wasn't that big of a deal the phone calls get to the wife more than myself lol. you may have it though they did ask if I collect anything other than silver and I told them that I did. the phone calls have all been to get me to buy more but they are not a bother yet the wife don't care for them but hey I got between 13-14 dollars of silver for 10 bucks so I got the deal. lol thanks for the heads up gatzdon I will keep my good eye on the CC Gary

It looks like I got lucky and have the free gift of the 700 page Expert's Guide to Collecting and Investing in Rare Coins. I would have missed it if I didn't read this. Thanks to all.
