I'm with you on the pencil/paper & photo route. The problem is that perception is reality, which means presentation alters reality. There's no doubt in my mind that a brilliant design executed poorly will have a hard time beating a good design presented properly, & I haven't had any ideas that could be considered brilliant.
When I sold real estate I quickly learned that people's perceptions influence their decisions. I showed identical houses in the same neighborhood priced thousands of dollars apart with the only difference being one had purple carpet in the living room, a pink master bedroom, nasty furniture and/or other similar problems. I can count on one hand the number of times people chose the house that had cosmetic problems despite the fact that the issue could have been fixed for a fraction of the price difference.

I hope this is large enough if interested I can make it bigger. I didn't label the coin tongs holding a coin.

Hopefully our coin or medallion will look like a commemorative coin with all the detail. Just a little thought wouldn't it be nice if we could include some of the best attributes from 4 people instead of two; that would really instill what CCF stands for a community working together helping when we can. Should be enough space on edge of coin to recognize each .

Here are my contributions to the contest. They are pretty crude but should get the general idea across. This is my obverse attempt. You will have to use your imagination a little bit. Due to my lack of skills I couldn't work the lettering out right. I also want an incuse outline of the globe with continents(similar to nohope's example on page 3) behind the Coin Community Family lettering. Keep all that in mind when you look at my obverse design: My reverse design has a tree of knowledge with coins on it. I wanted to use a major design element from the reverse of five different coins for the circles hanging from the branches. I envisioned eagles from several different time periods & countries. I was thinking an example from a Roman coin, an early US coin, one from an early coin from Mexico, an Austrian double headed eagle, & a modern example....but I'm open to other eagles or an entirely different theme. I wanted the "CENTURIES OF HISTORY" to be raised letters & to run around the top half of the coin. I see the "CCF Est. 2005" as incuse.

I also agree with BadToTheBone. We could take design elements from several of the suggestions & combine them. If we did that I don't see how anyone could get full credit & win a free token. An alternate suggestion might be that anyone that contributed to the final design could get their forum name on the edge of the first token they purchase.

Giving this topic a bump. There are just a few days left before the design contest ends. Nothing wrong with the designs so far but it would be nice to see some more.

Some nice designs. I had some good ideas but just didn't have the time to render them. Thought about drawing it out but couldn't do it justice. FWIW, here's a written description of what I had in mind. Not much different from many of the other designs already proffered, except for the features listed after the obverse and reverse description The coin would have a rim and denticles. Perhaps a defined central area on the reverse, similar to the ATB Quarter design. reversecenter of the coin-- a pile of randomly arranged coins, with a portion of a magnifying glass over part of the scene, showing an appropriately enlarged view of part of one coin. lettering around the edges-- EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO COLLECTOR SUCCESS obversecenter of the coin-- CCF monogram, 'est. 2005', with some type of wreath lettering around the edges-- COIN COMMUNITY FAMILY and coincommunity.com And the FUN part-- numismatic easter eggs!
- a digit in the denticles on the lower obverse
- hub doubling on the reverse edge lettering
- machine doubling on the date
- clash mark on the obverse from some part of the reverse design
- (maybe) a missing or weak letter somewhere to mimic a grease-filled die
- Obviously, more variety and error examples are possible, such as a rotated die. These are just a few possibilities.
With the easter eggs, the coin is a teaching tool! Like the motto says, education is the key... Thought about using a latin phrase. How 'bout this one: "tout semble plus impressionnant en latin" (OK, maybe not)
