Free coin giveaway? Sounds interesting. What is the coin. April they will be getting the April release but that does not mean they will get every one. Probably will only have the non rare ones. Few will get butterfly if they do.

Unclekim I don't think it would be fair to cancel on orders either but what if they had already allotted a certain amount to be distributed to post offices for order day and then these pre sales got out of hand? Who should suffer? The customer that caught wind of it and pre ordered, or the post offices who would be losing their allotment?

@Coin chick, unclekim.
More of a rhetorical question in regards to speculation in this thread that CP will cancel orders do to insufficient allotment.
I'm of the mind, that that would be terrible business practice, so I don't think CP would cancel orders.

@Hobbes - But if they do not have enough they will need to. Seems like a lot of Canada Posts were doing terrible business and guaranteeing coins when they did not know if they could fulfill them.

I just wonder if all of this would be happening, if there was no immediate profit in store. Prior to joining this forum, I thought it took yrs for coins to appreciate in value, not over night. I wonder if this mess isn't going to eventually result in 2 things happening. First the mint making radical policy changes, and secondly increasing some Mintages to meet 50% of percieved demand. I'm sure they aren't going to want to go through yesterday's events again! Rox

@pocket change 50 - I think Canada post need some policy changes like never to release info on future coins until a certain date or after they are released. The guy from the mint even said to me was it leaked because I am sure he was like what is going on. If the mintage does go up and the price does not go down but a lot because 50% more is a fair amount more then I will not be buying.

50% increase on mintage would be a very bad thing! There were a few routes to obtain the butterfly's before the release. Options were posted in these forums, numbers to call, places to go, and availability on Mint website reported on here and sister site. If anyone didn't secure themselves a butterfly there are still more options to pursue. Canada Post, Coin dealers in April, and paying extra on ebay. Or wait out the storm to find out one of two things: 1) The coin was over-hyped and readily available at $50 over issue or 2) The coin had huge success sparking even more interest in both previous coins in the series and prompting fourth coin in series to have 15,000 minted.

If there are delays in shipping the butterfly, then the price will continue it's upward trend. If they ship on release date, then the market will flood and the prices will level out...my guess is there will be a delay on the shipment of these until CP & the Mint get things sorted out...

@allspice
No need to guess on a possible delay, I was told to expect delays as coins won't be at CP warehouse till very late April.

Wow Newman26, that's quite the delay! If it's anything like the first Dino, then it could take even longer, like next summer!

CP outlets are limited as to what they can order from Head Office. my guess is that orders will need to be cancelled if they promised more than they will receive.
