srs77,
Back in the day when silver nickels circulated widely, the 1943-D was a prized find.
Lowest mintage of the 11 if I remember correctly. To get one today in change is quite
unusual. And yours has a nice look to it.
No doubt the coin gods noticed that you were rapidly approaching 50 posts and decided
to treat you with something special about which to write.

Thank you Matthew.. Yes the first thing I did was drag out all the info on the 43-D and was surprised to see it was the lowest mintage. The coin is in really nice condition and truly, I was shocked to find it and the Buffalo in my change after going to the store. I usually use a debit card for most purchases but for some reason I chose cash this time and voila!

Just very fortunate I think and it makes me realize that I need to go back to cash maybe!

I think the 43-D got to rest here and there over it's life. It's in pretty good shape to have been *constantly* circulating all this time. Good eyes, good find. (got a War Nickel in a roll last week, so I share the excitement!)
