guys, most TD's and bunch of CIBC's have Coinstars free for their clients. Plus most will give you coin wrappers for free. The RBC flat ones suck so don't get those. lol. It should never cost you money to roll coins, just time.
If you do want to pay for something, get one of those little coin counter trays so you don't have to count each roll out. But make sure you get one designed for Canadian coins and not US or you'll be putting too many quarters into a $10 tube (although I do like finding overstuffed tubes and keeping the extra!).

I have serious reservations about using coin counting machines. I know from first hand experience they are not correct. you can watch news reports of many machines incorrectly counting the coins up to 20%.
I have personally seen (when dumping pennies) quarters, and dimes popping into the reject area, and they are not deformed or silver.
I just do not trust them at all.

I have never noticed any of my current dump banks coin counters being wrong but my wife makes me count everything I dump. She worked at a different bank for around 30 years and knows from experience they can be wrong.
There was one time at a different bank where their count was about $30 off on $220 in halves. She brought it to the managers attention and they did an audit on the counter at the end of the day and we got credit for the money we were shorted.
It may waste some time but the only way to know for sure is to count it before dumping.

if you are going to count it before hand, why not roll it?

I get the rolls of coins from my bank... I know how much there is before I search it...
Take that amount subtract whatever coins you extract and that's the total that should be in the coin counter. So far at my dump I have never had an issue.

Ace: That bank has about 30 branches locally but none will accept rolled coin. They want it all to go through their coin counters. I assume they have been burned in the past. They will accept Presidential dollars still in crimped rolls and nothing else.

Dave, they have been talking about TD Canada Trust ( Canadian Bank) not the US version of TD.
I return rolls to several TD branches locally around the Metro Vancouver area, up to $1500 at a time. if they mention the counter, I just tell them I am not 100% convinced it does not eat some of my coins. Not to mention these counters are SOOOOO Slow, to dump $1500. I would have to be there for over an hour.

Quote: Dave, they have been talking about TD Canada Trust ( Canadian Bank) not the US version of TD. Same corporate parent, different divisions. TD got into my area by buying out a regional bank. For what it is worth, that bank had the naming rights for the convention center which hosts the fall coin show. Now it is called TD Convention Center. So, yes, I get a lot of my coins at TD.

Has anyone found a color 2015 poppy yet. People who bought rolls are finding anywhere from 1-9 color per roll. There's supposed to be over 6 million, where are they ?

This is a slower week for me, so I decided to get 20 rolls of nickels and quarters to pass the time, hoping to get some poppy quarters. Nickels: All were MWR. 100% plated steel. I think I have a 2002 with a struck-through error by D.G., but that's the only interesting find. Quarters: I only did 10 rolls so far. There was a similar amount of pre-2001 as I see in circulation, but the nickel finds were pretty decent. 20 1968-1996 nickel (5%) 7 1999 and 2000 nickel commemoratives (1.75%) 9 American - 2014D Arches (not a hole filler ), 6 Statehood, 2 Eagle (2.25%) 9 of 10 enders of the next bundle are not plated steel, so I will save them for later:

This is a very long thread, 73 pages; but the answer lies within...... It's all about the luck really.

Also where do you guys get your rolls of pennies from? Do banks seriously still have them?
