It is a 12-month rolling total.

You drop off if your 12 month rolling total < 1,000C$.

@MoneyPenny - You are right. Actually I was a 85% a few days ago and mine ended in October, 2013. But after I ordered 2 butterflies and a canopy coin it went back up to 100% and not it is March 2014.

As long as the total of your purchases during the previous 12 months are at least $1000. If you go under that limit, you're out. But you can get back in by bringing your 12-month total back to $1000.

I embarrassingly don't get it. I've never been good at math though

Let's say your MC status is from April 2011 to April 2012. You then don't buy another coin until September 2012. Wouldn't your MC status expire in April 2012? You would then have to buy another $1000 worth from September 2012 to September 2013?

Or, can you reinstate your MC status simply by buying a coin or multiple coins in your September 2012 purchase that make up the difference of $1000 minus what you purchased from September 2011 to April 2012? So if from September 2011 to April 2012, I spent $600 and in September 2012, I bought $400 worth of coins, I would then be MC status again?

I think I'm just too dense to get it.

@Cookiecutter - I had a hard time understanding but let me break it down. Lets say you join on September 2011. You buy $100 worth of coin in Septembers. 200 in October and 700 in November. You got MC. Your MC will run from November 2011 - November 2012. But once September 2012 comes -100 goes from the 100% total so it will go down to 90%. If you buy another $100 within that month the expire date is from September 2012 and now becomes September 2013. If you do not buy a coin and October came. Now $300 dollars of that total percentage comes off. So 70%. Same as last time you buy $300 then it will be October 2013. Now if you don't and November comes around now $700 dollars of that total percentage comes off. So the rest %70. Then you will basically have to spend another $1000 if you wait until it is at 0%.
Rest in Peace

directly from the Mint website: "Masters Club status is achieved upon purchase of over $999.99 CAD* on one or more purchases (in a consecutive 365 days based on the first date of purchase) and valid for one year from the date that threshold is reached. Masters Club status will renew for a subsequent year if a Masters Club member purchases another $999.99 CAD within 365 days of earning his/her previous year's Masters Club status."

Has anyone actually lost MC status? Mine always seems to be moving to the last date I made a purchase.

@tristen1230 - Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I finally understand it. It's quite embarrassing to admit that such a simple concept stumped me for quite some time. I just never understood why my MC extended every time I bought a coin as I didn't realize it was a rolling 12 months.

Has anybody ever called the mint to inquire how far away they are from keeping MC status, ie how much to purchase in any given time to keep it up?

No matter how you tune the masters club there will be a significant number of people that will left unhappy. When you have $100-200 coins with mintage of 5000-10000, no amount of control at the masters club level will stop determined flippers/hoarders/opportunists/collectors-that-sell-to-keep-collecting from getting their hands on more than their "fair" share.

I'm of the opinion that the mint should go back towards higher mintage and better quality, as oppose to this monthly spamming of "innovative" coins. Really... how many first-of-a-kind issues have we had in just this past year. Is it exciting, yes, but sustainable? I don't want to see Canadian NCLT go the way of Franklin mint collectibles in 10 years.

Unfortunately, I think we're already there for 70 to 80% of what has been released over the past couple of years.

So how do people get an "in" with a post office? I can't seem to find a catolgue that shows these latest releases. I'm sure my wife wouldn't be impressed if I told her I had to bed the lady in the post office - "Honest, I just did it to get the coin deal!"

March has been a good month for sell outs like the butterfly. canopy and mask coins for now. Even so, the canopy and mask coins are not guaranteed hits. But the number of duds far outweigh the hits. How many of the January and February releases have been a big hit? Aside from the Duck Subs, what else have been a hit? Dino 2 turn out be a big let down because they made too many of them and release them all at the same time.
Poboxw say increase the mintage. No way. That is one sure way to devalue coins. 90% of the coins release so far this year are not doing well.
I went to a local coin store. The shelves are stacked high with recent NCLT coins. All at issue prices. Those coins will stay for years on those shelves, gathering dust.

@yellowperch - When I first heard about the catalogues at the CP I went to about 5 and the only one which had a catalogue only for the employees was the main one. She let me take a look though when I said catalogue that was not the first thing that came to her mind.

yellowperch, some outlets are better than others. Most order the bare minimum, if that. If you have a few in your area, take a tour and see if an outlet is 'in the know'. Main offices seem more knowledgeable and should be willing to order for you. In theory they all should be able to order coins, some don't care to be involved. I've toured most of the locations in my area, some were willing to order for me, some told me to call the philatelic centre. One outlet close to me is fun by a fellow collector and is on top of things. She's my go to even though I pass three CP outlets on my way.
